I was talking to a guy at work today who is a civil servant and a union member.  We started talking about politics and he got really pissed off because the local "federal workers union" is supporting Kerry and encouraged most of its members to vote likewise.

It's no secret that Bush is a friend of the Union but most of the guys are work with are union members, veitnam vets, and govt employees.  Bush has been pretty good to them BUT here's the twist.

If kerry wins office...based on what he's said so far AND his past voting record he will eliminate half the projects on this base and jobs associated with them.

Why would a Union support a president that has voted to eliminate jobs of THIS PARTICULAR union's members.

This is were I have a problem with most unions....yes they provide alot of bennies for members that they otherwise wouldnt get BUT I see more often than not were they would rather have their members lose jobs alltogether than conceede on issues.

I agree Gun, infact I just watched a documentary on the construction of a sky scrapper. They were talking with a construction worker who had to walk off the job because the Union he belonged too was not being paid. Now I do agree Unions do help alot of workers but now here is a guy that almost lost his house because he couldnt work and get paid.

It's how I lost my government/union job.

Teamster.

1996.

Billy signed a paper and 3000 union employees were out of a job.

Real nice.

(on subject)

I really found this funny....and see it with alot of unions that they suppor the canidate that will axe their jobs......OR.....they make outragous demands that make their members lose thier jobs in the first place.

As stated in another thread..Unions are Old Fashioned...on the fringe of being criminal.....do nothing but cause prices to be jacked up so the manufacture/service provider can afford to meet the Union's demands.....If you own a company have some balls..Don't hire Union workers.

The only thing good about OUR union is they provide a really good dental plan for cheap.  Other than that....

We had a new regulation come down that ALL trash cans that have food items put in them need to have a cover.  Well our UNION civ workers never take out the trash so we brainstormed and combined 5 small trash cans into two big ones with lids.  This helped out the guys that have to take them out AND satisfied the new reg.

Well our guys filed a greviend (SP) because it was a change against "past practices"  5 trash cans came back and we take a hit on instpection for not being in complience.

YET NOT A ONE OF THEM filed anything when our smoke area got moved to an uncovered location.

When I worked security at NAS Oceana, to help us Navy guys at the precinct out, they told the DOD Police officers that they would have to start standing post at the main gate and flight line. Instead of cruisin around in the cars all the time...First thing they did was filea complaint with their union and it took months before we could get their lazy butts on post...

Lets see..When I took a year off between enlistments in the Navy back in 1997-98 and the butthead teamsters(the gangsters of the union scene) went on strike, I couldn't get my paycheck. Why you might ask? Because Sears mails all payroll from an office in Atlanta via UPS.
