traceroute/routing question
« on: September 09, 2004, 10:26:43 AM »
I've lost host connection quite alot in the last 6 weeks - more than in the last 2 years combined, probably. Even HTC website is unreachable after losing host. Here is a typical traceroute of last hops:

I understand that my ISP has a contractual relationship for backbone routing. What I don't know is, at what point does my ISPs relationship end, and say, HTCs begin?

I don't expect the internet to be perfect, but this same router location has been dropping out at about 8 a.m. Pacific time (router location) for over a month now. :(

See hop #12?  That is the source of the problem.  All bets are off after that one.

If Verio is your ISP, then send this to them.  If not, then send it anyways and ask your ISP if they know a reason for the problem at Verio.

By the way, what IP address were you using for this?

I will point Savvis at this onece I know where you were going as they problem appears to be between Savvis and Verio, but Verio has the responsibility of that connection.

Thank you, Skuzzy.

Pinging to 216.91.187.39

My ISP isn't Verio directly. The route from tokyo to U.S. used to be Sprint until last month, but Verio must be cheaper... :)

Verio is owned by a company in Japan.  I am surprised it took them this long to make the switch.

They could be having route propagation problems after such a switch as well.  It's not uncommon.  Sprint has a tendency to hang on to things.

I've had some propagation problems myself recently; the diet starts tomorrow. Really...

Thanks and cheers.
