I have a friend who is trying to play AH ,,,,,he cannot get win 98 to recognize his joystick.   I checked to see if he disabled onboard sound card....he had, because he needed a gameport for his JS.  What am I missing?

No need to disable the sound card. I used to have a sound card, and used its game port for my MSW PP2 joystick. The sound card was not disabled in any way, and everything was fine. (W-Me)

But that setup was old hat. I've since got rid of W-Me completely, and the soundcard, and now use the onboard sound (Asus A7N8X-DLX) and USB stick.

I suggest you to tell him to buy a new joystick.
