I read an article about the
Pat Tillman Foundation in the Sporting News, so I decided to visit the site and have a look.
It is well done. They've obviously hired a
professional to do it.
There are links to stories of memorials and other things planned to ensure that everyone in the NFL knows of Pat Tillman and what he sacrificed. There are even
jerseys you can buy.
The article in Sporting News spoke of NFL wives doing running and other sporting events, obtaining sponsors and donating money to the foundation.
When I finally got to the part that covers how the money is spent, this is it:
The thrust of the Pat Tillman Foundation will be one of action and education. Through the promotion of volunteer service, educational curriculums and strategic alliances, the Foundation will focus on challenging our neighbors to look within themselves and others to instill participation and positive change. Over the next year, the Foundation will focus on developing a regional programmatic partnership with a national model to follow in 2006.
The Foundation will utilize experts in the field of humanities and education to design focused outreach geared for specific action. Plans are being put in place for an all-out campaign to promote greater public service and to aid those that strive to improve humanity. Adolescents and adults will be taught that apathy and indifference is wrong and that they can and must be part of the solution of improving our society.
Maybe it is just me being trapped in my cynical skin, but I'm thinking... That's all there is?
...and don't get your underwear in a bunch. This post isn't about Pat Tillman. It's about the people using his name.
