I thought I would spend about $700.00 US, on a new aacoustic guitar, 6 string only.

I'm thinking along the lines of

Guild
Martin
Takamine

any suggestions?

What do you guys recommend, Why?

though had to find one for $700

takamine are decent, though they have a brightness to the sound i dont prefer

DO NOT BUY ONLINE...

ALWAYS play the guitar yourself. even the same model by the same manufacturer in the same store will have a slightly different sound.

if you dont care about branding, go to a good store and start playing every one, find one you like the sound of... it could be made by schmuck industries, but if you like the way ti sounds thats the most important.

Yea, try it out first. I got a cheap guitar because I figured I could learn on anything, and I found out that I was really really wrong about that assumption.

I'd recommend an Epiphone. Good quality for a decent price. Stick to their upper level stuff. I have one of these and love it. Check out the reviews on the site. Epiphone EJ-200CE As far as buying online, I've bought my last 2 guitars online and have no regrets. Certainly save quite a few $$. If you're unsure, play it in a store, then buy it online. Musicians Friends is a good reputable online dealer.

I bought a cheap Concerto about 5 years ago. I think I paid 60 bucks for it new. I haven't had to replace a string or do any major repair work on it since Ive owned it. It sounds fine, but nothing like a good, quality guitar such as Gibson or Fender.

Its great for a beginner, such as myself, and only needs tuning about once a month. The only complaint I have about it is the high E string whines instead of rings when you play it. It doesnt affect the sound too much, but it is noticeable.

But, since youre willing to spend around $700, id definately get something better.

Oops, guess I didnt mention that. I try to replace them as I can afford. That usually equals out to once every month or so.

Wait, I said that in my previous post completely wrong. I meant I havent had to change one because it broke since I got it. Not just plain replace them.

Hehe, I think I just caused Nash a heart attack.

I don't play much, and Im nowhere near any good at it. So I guess my maintenance habits for it arent anywhere near good.

I myself have a Martin Alternative-X. Newer guitar made of composites with a brushed aluminum top. People always gawk at it when I open the case, it sounds great unplugged and also has good electronics (Fishman Prefix Pro) so its AWESOME hooked up.

There she is...or one like it. I plug it into a Berhinger Ultracoustic ACX 1000 amp, 2 8" speakers driven by 2 60 watt amps. Shure Microphone/cable/stand.

I bought it at Guitar Center, and the final battle came down to it and a Takamine. I liked the Takamine, it sounded good and they were both thin body acousitc/electrics. They both played well, but there's just something about a Martin and their reputation that made me opt to spend a few hundred more bucks. I don't regret the decision. I'm looking at Taylors now since I'm getting serious with the playing, and maaaaaay be convinced to part with it at a pretty good discount to you. Try one out at your local guitar store, and let me know what you think.

I use Martin SP Lights or Elixir Polyweb Light strings

$700 would be right about bargain basement price for what i'd let it go for, including case.

I'm sure you've heard of Dispatch, being from Boston??? I'd say the're my favorite band and a new up and comer, Pat McGee band from Virginia is a good one to check out as well. Dispatch just played their final show, I was busy that weekend so I missed the show...

Never did get to see em live, but have plenty of live stuff on mp3 and CD
