I have to say my life changed today.  I can now watch what I want....when I want....how I want.

Yes it's nice.  DirecTV delivered and installed a DVR for a mere $14 today.  :D

Yes life is good.

I'm not sure how compatible it is, but I've heard you can make yourself a cheap computer w/ an all in wonder type vid card and turn it into a tivo.  I dont think this is compatable w/ directv so it was a no go for me.  Also I dont think all the features is there.

Was watchin nip'tuck on FX tonite and one of my kids needed help in the bathtub (soap in the eyes) Not a problem super dad to the rescue.  All I had to do was hit the pause button and I was off.  I came back 5 min later and unpaused.  Then to my glorious discovery I found a new feature.....COMERCIAL SKIP.....Oh yes...life is good.  Too bad not too many Nebraska games are televised on the west coast (not like they are worth watching this year anyways)

I have a 9800 AIW vid card that does capture but the Tivo is still the best way to go.  I don't think anyone has a decent HDTV recorder out which I don't understand.  Should just be a HDTV tuner and a big HD.  Hope you were not thinking HD as in Hard Drive..>

With all this new tech for TV's, isn't it a shame that all the new TV's on the market are hideous, cheap-looking overpriced ugly plastic things?

TiVo is nice and all, but I think I'll stick with rabbit ears :)

I started to go that route and have most of what I need for a setup. Unfortunatley, there are problems automating the system with digital cable. Basically it involves getting the digital channel changed without doing it manually. It would work O.K. for standard cable though.

just got back from D.C, while there- had my sister order a regular SA settop DVR from her cable co, COX. She recorded Amazing Race last night and viewed it in half the time this ma after zipping throught eh commercials

yes, a dvr is the way to watch tv and regain some of your life back :)
