So yes it will work, but you'd get better performance off of a single 1024 rather than two 512s.

Well 2 mem modules will work but that socket does NOT support dual channel.  Not a single socket 754 CPU will ever have dual channel memory, it's physically impossible because it doesn't have the extra pins for the extra 64-bit memory bus

the Asus K8V is a great board, wont get you much overclocking though.... the MSI K8N would be better for that.
