PCI xpress 16 upgrade card
« on: September 22, 2004, 06:06:32 PM »
I have a Dell 8400 3.0ghz 80gig Seagate sata hd. 1MB ddr2 (533mhz) ram. I have a X300? video card and my old geforce4 mx 420 was better than this thing. Does anyone know of the X600's are they worth it? I can't afford the X800. I am looking for the Best I can get for this game for <$300

I'd have to say that if that vid card is not performing as well as a mx420 it is b/c it is in a Dell.  Dell computers are shipped full of bloatware which slows the system down considerably.  Dells are good for Internet, word processing etc, however if you plan on gaming with one, good luck!

Check out the relative performance of virtually any card made at Anandtech .  According to them there is no performance difference between a X600 Pro and a 9600 Pro.  An X300 is 76% as fast as an X600 Pro and a X300 SE is 65% as fast.  An X800 Pro is  371% faster than a X600 Pro.

FYI... The X700 was due out on 9/20/04.  It's supposed to take the middle ground.  Better than the X600 not as costly as the X800.
