It had to be Branson

As you will know by now, Sir Richard Branson, founder of the Virgin group, has announced the creation of Virgin Galactic, the first company offering flights onboard Burt Rutan's SpaceshipOne.

Personally, I think this is great, as it will definitely spur other investor groups to do the same thing.

Fancy a ride to space? :)

Good to see a billionaire who can still dream like a kid.   Where is Gates with his bazillion dollars?   Probably trying to figure out how to create unblockable popups.

gates kinda sorta has a hand in it ...

The ship will be released from a carrier craft at a height of 15,000 metres, and will fire its rockets to climb to a height of 100km before falling back into the atmosphere and gliding to Earth. Mr Klerkx said he was not surprised at talk of a link between Virgin and Scaled Composites' sub-orbital spaceflight plans, currently being bankrolled by billionaire Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen's investment firm, Vulcan Ventures.

Paul Allen has been on his own for a long time.  He also does interesting things with his money, like Branson.

What's the ticket going to cost?

Oh... and if it runs on windows, I'm not boarding.

I believe the ticket will be around $17k. Not too bad, knowing that a single parabollic flight costs $3k (nogravity.com) and that you'll be "awarded" the astronaut wings :)
