Here is he major problem with any specs on WWII fighter planes. Depending on the source, the information varies. For all those out there that whine about performance specs, figure it to be the average of combined specs. Too many different numbers to know which is the correct one.
Hangtime's info:
TOPS SPEED: 475 miles per hour
SERVICE CEILING: 42,200 feet
RANGE: 1,600 miles
POWER PLANTS: Allison 12-cylinder V-1710-G6 engines
Dune's info (conflicting)
two Packard Merlin V-1650-23/25 engines of 1,860 hp
Engines: Two Packard V-1650s of 1,380 hp. ea.
Crew: Two
Cost: $228,000
PERFORMANCE
Maximum speed: 482 mph
Cruising speed: 280 mph
Range: 2,200 miles
Service Ceiling: 39,900 ft
As you can see there is different values for top speed, max altitude, engine type and hp, as well as range. The same is true for most AC of the period. Depending on where the info came from, you could get different data.
