Russian Supreme Court building:

What's wrong here? JFYI, mutant eagle is a Russian State Emblem, so it's not what I am asking about.

Yeah, I'll second what JBA said.  Justice should be blind.  Instead, she looks like she's ready to kick some serious ass.  She's all like 'Yo, crime, come here' and crime is all like 'no way, lady' and she's all like 'I swear, if you don't get over here right now, so help me I will knock you silly with this shield!' and crime is all like 'whoa!'

Has the statue been altered, for example have the scales been added and perhaps the sword removed?

JBA is right.

And it's not a fake, it's a real photo. Worth a thousand words.

I've never understood the "justice is blind" thing.  Why would one want blind justice?  Why not deaf and dumb too?   Comatose would be even better.

Yeah, have to go with ra on this one.

When I picture a statue of Justice, I imagine her holding a big ****ing hammer.

It's blind because it's impartial. Sorry, probably the wrong word, I had to look for it at http://www.lingvo.ru

Impartial is the right word.  I would just feel more comfortable with Justice that can see what's going on.

Nah. justice is blind in that it considers the arguments of the case and not the persons who are making them. You know, the notion that I am subject to the same laws as a former head of Halliburton.  That's why Ashcroft keeps her behind a curtain these days; and why Russia has removed her blindfold.
It's much easier when Justice isn't blind, or is kept hidden..

Apparently the byiuch can't be trusted or she wouldn't need a blindfold.  Either way, it's a weird metaphor.
