howdy i know this is off topic but as a dayly user of this great group i havent seen this post and really wish i had .

in short
beware the drivers that saitek released on their website !!
if you are doing a install of dx8 befor you install 1.4 it wont install at all . it requires 7a and 8 just wont do . this would be fine but it seems like the new vers 2.3 just plain dont work .  when i try to install Ranger Bobs excelent ready made configuration
---COUDOS RANGER BOB YOU RULE --- the new 2.3 wont recognize the configuration file   looks like a new fresh install for me ...  be warned  thank you for you attention back to your regularly scedualed chog programing hehe

I've bought x36 USB last week and have Dx8 installed on my PC. When I tried installing configuration files from CD, it won't work because of the newer Dx version, but I then went and downloaded drivers from their site. Works fine on my end, or have they released new drivers since then?

After I installed DirectX8 from a fresh reformat, I then tried to load the SGE software for the X36. Arrrg, nuthin but terrible problems.

I reformated, installed DirectX7a, and now all is great. I would assume now I can just put in 8.0, but you might want to start from scratch.
