Since I happened to be watching the attack on the base from the tower and saw there was no opposition.. in addition, the axis dumped remaining ord on shore battery .. I make the call that they would have dispatched with the town with no problem )

Side note: 2 pilots from Damned squad re-upped after being shot down. Together, they destroyed 1 A20 and damaged 2 spits. These 3 aircraft were removed from the Allied losses.

Overall a hard fought 3 frames, but an axis victory in the end. I didnt count on the #s slump for the convention...I will have to factor that in next time. I hope everybody had some fun with it, its hard to get these balanced right sometimes.

P.S. I was the one who said the Town at A43 was off limits. I assume that the airfield was te primary target and the town was to be left alone like in most of the previous Squad Ops.

Didn't know that in this one it was fair game ... otherwise we would have dumped ordinance there in the second strike instead of going after small targets like the shore battery.

I want to give a big to all the guys that flew lastnight.  This is the first time I CO'ed and didn't need a big bottle of advil after.

Your first time Stream? Hats off to you sir! Well done on the orders. It was RHINO's first time as a Frame C.O. also and he did an excellent job also.

I was really kicking myself because I did not have time this past week prior to Friday to check the fuel/flight time to target. The 332nd was slotted to escort two squads out of A57 who were going to fly south of A58 and then turn north for their target A59. We were flying LA5's and engaged some 109's south of A59. It was a wide ranging furball and turned into a bit of a running fight as the A20's pressed on to their target. Many A20's were shot down but the sky was also littered with debris from 109's and 190's. Several of my squad ended up low and near A59.

After about 15 minutes of fighting we all had to break off and head for home. Problem was we only had about 5 minutes of fuel left!  All of us cut our RPM to 1500 and went to about 20 manifold pressure. That gave us about 13 to 15 minutes of flight time, but only at about 180 mph. Not enough.   Everyone of us had to ditch and several were killed trying. Prior to that our squad had shot down 8 aircraft with several assists, but not a single loss. It would have been a first for my squad to engage the enemy and not lose a single pilot. Shame I did not check the fuel and conserve more as we escorted our buffs.

Heck I was wondering where you all ended up. After heading North for a bit I looped around to 59 from the East with TC. I saw it was basically swarmed over with mostly low NME but I managed to find a group of A-20's co alt with me. I took 3 of em on two passes and headed out NE as there was waaay too many bad guys at 59. Then you all disappeared. I knew we couldn't have killed all those fighters with the small force we had covering the place at that time. I hung around the 59/52 area, picked up 3 more Spits, re-armed, checked the roster and all of a sudden we were up 37 to 5. I thought there was a mass disco or something! Its a shame. You guys had it perfectly dogpiled!

Thanks Daddog but it wasn't my first time. I have done it three or four times now.  I wish my first time was this easy.  My first time was IJN.. ouch if we didn't get slaughtered.  My idea was to take the biggest squads and put them on A43 and level it.  I didn't use bombers this time around, I wanted it to be fast in fast out. So I put 2 squads of FW190 F8s to take it out.  That left me the other squads to cap P36 and A59.  I put two and two on each one and had 2 in reserve to come and help out if needed.

Honestly I don't come up with these all by myself.  We usually run something in the Combat Theater and I have a Operations team that comes up with Op ords.  You guys sould come in a and try it.  We try to make it a little like Squad ops but it usually doesn't happen because people just think we gang.

Rgr Stream. I was sure it was not your first time, but I misunderstood what you wrote.

The CT rocks! I love it in there! I really dislike the MA, but as a C.O. I am torn between supporting my squadies who like the MA and wanting to fly in the CT. Every once and a while we do a CT mission on the Friday we are off during Squad Ops. Next Friday for example we will be in the CT for a bit.

Rgr that Drano. It was a steller night for us. 8 kills without a single loss. I am still kicking myself for not conserving fuel on the way to target. Ugh! Live and learn.

Stream, I definently needed some Advil and a big bottle of Burbon following that one. It was my first run as Frame C.O.  

My intention was to stack the fighters up down south and overwhelm the fighter protection at A59. I sent the DOW up north to flash A52 with hopes of drawing your protection towards them. Biggest prob was the main body of escorts didnt have the range to make it to the field and return. The round trip was @250 miles. I made an error in not letting the fighters know ahead of time to conserve fuel. That mistake cost us big time. I had them set to only climb to 12K and stay with the bombers. I didnt make my orders specific enough in that area.  Things were so busy that I didnt catch it on the fly. Drano's efforts pulled some of our escorts just far enough away from the bombers that 109s were all over the bombers with only 1 full squad of fighters to protect the bombers. That broke up my plan to overwhelm. I should have kept the fighters closer to the main bomber group.

In the north at P36 the forces I sent in there I was really worried about. It was my hope that since it was a port it would be less defended than 59. So I sent two squads in NOE to get in and out as quick as possible. Problem was your guys were in position to intercept them prior to target.

A43 Was defended with 3 squads estimate about 17 fighters. I didnt expect a large push into the field. I had a report that most of the escorts were taken care of but your attack planes pushed through to target.  I watched from the tower after most of our guys were down your second attack on A43. Thats when the Burbon would have been nice!


This was a great learning experience for me. My hope is that all who were in this frame had a good time allied and axis. I will do better on the next one and look forward to it. I want some revenge after this defeat

I'm curious, why is it that multi engine planes are worth more points than singles? I can see the reasoning behind say a B-17, but it seems to me that the A-20 is an much easier target than the LA-5 or YAK.

Because the bombers--the attack planes--are the ones that will be doing the majority of the damage to your side. Damaging the facilities is what these events are about. Each side gets a whole lot of points for hitting their assigned targets and returning safely with the planes. Taking the bombers away is more valuable to your side strategically than taking out their escort. Taking them out removes, for the most part usually, their ability to earn points against your side. Because of that they're a higher value target *strategically speaking* than the escorts are.

This is basically the difference between events and MA style of gameplay.
