Instruments WRONG
« on: October 04, 2004, 12:04:39 PM »
I'd like to mention something here that I've noticed for a while.

Oil pressure gagues are WRONG. I don' t mean how they work or look, but they give the wrong readings!

I've noticed this in passing in several planes, when and where the engine dies when you get an oil hit (and *only* an oil hit).

But usually I'm too busy to make notes and usually I don't want to go through all the different planes to see what dies at what.

But the other day I DID make a note of one of them.

The 109G10 loses oil until it is at about 50 (lbs I believe), then dies instantly.

However, what first made me notice this problem was way way back many months ago, when I was watching my oil drop and drop, waiting for my engine to die, only the needle kept going, PAST zero, PAST the instrument face itself, until if flattened out perfectly horizontal (and outside the instrument face) before the oil stopped and my engine died.

So the calibration for the oil gagues is off on several planes. I list the 109G10 only because it's the most recent one and the one I made a note of. Their "zero mark" is off.
