No kill, no assist...whining?
« on: September 14, 2004, 04:37:48 PM »
Well...how should I start?

#¤%&/()=#£

Killing a Ju-88 with Me-262 is propably a minority happening...that will not be noticed or ranked at all....

I shot the wing off one Ju-88 which was hitted just minutes before by my squadmates. They saw me cutting that wing off with 30mm...

All in all...My squadmates got assists of that kill! I didnt get the kill, and even not an assist of it!!!

What sense does it make to fly with 262? You set your perk points on table and get...NOTHING for it!!!

By the fact that your post got no reponses doesn't mean your point isn't legitimate or valid Zuum.
I have had problems with this ...ahem...new and improved hit modeling myself.
I am looking into the effects of my firewall on my connection inside the MA for starters because, what I'm seeing and experiencing makes no sense at all. You see, I get in real close (400 to 200 feet) and let loose with cannon fire of 50 caliber (6 or 8 depending on the planetype) and get no joy.
I hear similar complaints from many others; those who get the kill
are happy and don't seem to have any problem.
I don't know what the problem is but, I know there is one. So, you aren't the only one who has been affected by this anomally, even though noone else has responded to your thread.

Kills and Assists have been real strange.  I have got the kill message, when I had only a few pings and other have done more dammage.  And I have only got the assist when I have done alot of damage.  I think something could be not right here.

It has been my impression that kills and assists are awarded based on the number of hits and NOT on the amount of damage.  This is most obvious when attacking ground vehicles.  Someone hits the GV with a few rounds of 50, then you come in with a pair of 1000 pounders and only get an assists.  There is no way that a few rounds of 50 cal will do more damage.

In the 262 example, the squadmates may have had dozens of hits and one 30mm wont be enough to get the assist even though it took the wing off – so no perks.  You get points for every hit so points would have been awarded.

Machnix, I wish it were that simple an explanation but, in recent days I have had a different experience :(  I shredded a Tiffie in the P-47 I was flying and another guy simply acquired him and took one brief shot and downed him; he got the kill and I got the assist.  I had similar experiences and cannot figure it out. Number of hits from as close as 200 feet should and ought to do more; especially when pieces come off. I also took the wing off an a/c while in a field ack as he passed me, the P-38 following him got a few hits as he chased him but, I took the wing off; I got the assist, and the 38 got the kill...very strange.

Well, maybe I have to expand my theory a little.

Most kills are the result of shooting off the tail or wing and the plane tumbles to Earth.  If the pilot bails or the plane hits the ground, kills and assists are awarded based on the number of hits.  On those rare occasions the pilot is killed while in flight, the kill is awarded to the person who did the killing.  So no matter how much damage you do to the enemy, if someone shows up and puts a single round through the pilot's head, he will get the kill.

Don, on your field ack example, the rule of who has the most hits gets the kill is still valid.  The P-38 puts two rounds in; you hit him once with the field ack and take the wing off; and the P-38 gets the kill and you the assist.  I had an incident in a field gun where an enemy P-51 was being chased by at least three others and I can only assume they where getting some hits.  I fired from the field gun and one of the rounds landed on the 51's windshield.  The plane exploded a second latter and I was awarded the kill.  So the theory of who kills the pilot gets the kill seems to hold.

So shoot at the pilot, not the plane.
