Bumpmapping?
« on: September 24, 2004, 12:41:44 PM »
this is for anyone, as my memory elludes (sp?) me.

didn't HT at one point have bumpmapping on the terrain?

is it cuasing problems? or too much of an fps hit to keep?

or will it return?

i bring this up after looking at some screenies and vids from "another" sim-game-whatever. The water, the suns reflection, the way light is treated on the surface of the water makes a huge difference in "realism" of the enviroment IMO.

-curious.

Bump Mapping wouldn't really decrease performance that much.

It would add lots of depth to plane and terrain damage.

does anyone have any AHII screenies from when the bumpmapping was implemented?

i'd like to compare the two if possible. I'm also curious since readin something from the QA session about how far the new AHII engine can go.

Well, judging from the way the game looks now, not far enough :D

yes, we initally were using bump mapping on the terrain, but it's been removed due to technicalities.  Hopefully it will make it's way back sometime.

AH2 in its current state can only be realistically called AH 1.5 because SO MUCH is not there yet.  We dont have the high res textures or bump mapping on the terrain......the 'really cool fires that you just have to see' are not there yet.  As a small company HTC seems to have ran into some real issues getting it on the rim and out the door.  So we have what we have now.....lots better than 1...but not the AH][ we had all dreamed of.

Its good....just not great yet.

But to compete in the next year or so, its going to have to bump up the eye candy level someting fierce.  Im sure HTC is working their proverbial joysticks off to get things complete.

When you look at the new plane models you can see how nice things will be.  I just would like some info on when the terrain is going to get some high resolution w/bumpmaps:D

Then, I believe, you have some problems with you AH settings or installation or you playing IL2 with very low detail settings.

This thread is about bumpmapping.  Not whether or not you think the game is 'certified 2.0' or how much fps you're getting.  Please stay on topic.
