But the snopes link did throw in this ... which is equally as compelling to me:

In its expression of the theme that America can never be conquered by external enemies, but can only be brought down through the failings of its own citizens, this piece is reminiscent of thoughts delivered for real by a revered American historical figure: Abraham Lincoln's address before the Young Men's Lyceum of Springfield, Illinois, on 27 January 1838:

"At what point shall we expect the approach of danger? By what means shall we fortify against it? -- Shall we expect some transatlantic military giant to step the Ocean and crush us at a blow? Never! -- All the armies of Europe, Asia and Africa combined, with all the treasure of the earth (our own excepted) in their military chest; with a Buonaparte for a commander, could not by force, take a drink from the Ohio, or make a track on the Blue Ridge, in a trial of a thousand years. At what point then is the approach of danger to be expected? I answer, if it ever reach us, it must spring up amongst us. It cannot come from abroad. If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen, we must live through all time, or die by suicide. "

What were we talking about again?
Death is no easy answer
For those who wish to know
Ask those who have been before you
What fate the future holds
It ain't pretty

I'm not arguing with your liking or not liking the story.  But just from reading it, anyone familiar with Washington knows he almost certainly wouldn't have said it.  Plus it's too "convenient" in any event.  I knew it was misattributed before I even headed to Snopes to confirm it.

Dead man flying.....1 problem.

If you look at prophecy in the bible you will find the pattern used in them is the same as Washingtons.

Such as ...look and learn.....son of the Republic....dipping of water from ocean the use of europe, asia and africa.....and the fortelling of 1 or 2 events that happened after a vision to althinacate its position ...such as the civil war.

The angel and the trumpet always sound.

Dont know seems to follow a pattern.

Well, I used to grow mushrooms at home and have had many "visions"...

The Washington story has always seemed interesting to me.
