I've heard about this online ATC system in FS2004 and other things to make the game more immersive.

How does one get started in this?

#1 Buy the program

#2 Read the instructions.

Get "Sqawkbox" and then go to VATSIM.net and register. I personally use X-plane. VATSIM is a great network for real time ATC. You must read up on the proceedures before you fly in a controlled area and MUST follow all instructions by the ATC's.

1. Go through all the training stuff in FS2004 and try to also understand what its trying to teach you

2. read up some stuff about real life flying

3. go to http://www.vatsim.net and read the stuff.
although lots of the stuff is told there..

4. don't expect to be a 'realistic' pilot in a moment, try adding RMK/STUDENT in the remarks section of the flightplan, to advice ATC you are a new guy. They'll like the warning.

5. ask me whatever you want. I do have controller level rating in VATSIM.. although I do only have ATC licenses in Finland, but I do have extensive flight experience in the USA. (most of my flights)

Nice timing on this thread.

Fishu-Otto-ASATC etc... I’m in 757 Avionics training all week and agreed to bring the LAN box in so the instructor could give some hands-on simulator training tomorrow morning on tuning in the VOR's, ILS, ADF, RDMI, etc… basically getting an idea how the EADI and EHSI looks so everyone can see them in action while in flight. Sure would beat the boring slides.

Anyway, I dug out Flight Simulator 2004 and just re-installed it, then applied the new patch. I'm not real familiar with the program, but from first looks the panels are detailed but a quite a bit off. That and I’m not sure the depth of the avionics model, although it just has to show the basics.

Can you guys recommend a download site where I could get a more realistic panel layout for the 757, and maybe a 757 in AA colors? Doesn't have to be spot on, maybe a better FD panel. We are going to run it on a nice new projector, so it should be pretty cool; any help would be appreciated.

There will be a whopping good B767 panel available in few months and as far as I know, the 767 and 757 are "quite" similar.
most likely they wont be doing a panel for 757 also as it does have quite significant differences still

Sad because Finnair uses B757's, not B767's.

It'll be known as LDS767 - LDS = Level D simulations.
By ex-767PIC crew (pilot-in-command.. the title is nowadays own by Wilco publishing, therefore the new title LDS)

Muckmaw, I just reread your post. I thought you were taking about the 'ingame' ATC. I don't know anything about the 'online' version.

I think you guys (some of you) misunderstood me.

I've been playing FS2004 for some time.

What I mean is, how hard is it to get involved with a virtual airline and real ATC, etc?

Sorry Muck, didn't mean to hijack yer thread. I hardly ever start a new one, old habit.

Anyway, thanks Otto, I did that type of google search, came up with alot of sites, some more confusing than others, some that wanted $ for downloads which I haven't ruled out. I'll check out your link though and let you know.

Fishu, most of the class is taught saying "this is the 757, this is the 767" comparing each. They ARE very similar, and it’s purposely integrated. I’m sure in the end they are going to say we met the FAA training requirements for us to work on both jets (good company training dollars killing both with one class) but the weird thing is, it’s more just understanding both compared to the 737-800 and newer systems we are used too.

As much as I hate these dry classes, and work hours other than night shift, I have to admit this one is a lot of fun.

I downloaded all the software from Vatsim and have an ID and Sqwaukbox (Dont know how it works).

I have NO IDEA what I am to do next. Any thooughts?

clikc join now. join.
then go down to click pilot resources.
click pilot software.

then the top looks like it has everything you need.

Note vatsim doesn't accept free emails.

I play using http://www.eskyworld.com A friend or two uses vatisim. Really both pretty similiar so I assume, I've only used Eskyworld.
