Why would you recommend that anyone download ATI drivers for an NVIDIA GeForce card?  Omegas ARE for the ATI right?

I guess I wasn't very clear on that point.  I was relating my experience with the ATI version of the Omegas.  I have never actually used the Omega Nvidias, yet but I intend to try them on my Gforce 4 4400 when I go out to Guam next month.  As Sno said, Omegas have also been available for Nvidia cards for a long time.

Skuzzy, please recall as to how to get rid of this.  I'm getting severe hits on watching movies and everything else since getting WMP 10.

Skuzzy, can you please recall what the thing was?  Or what to search for?  Because I am getting a huge hit in performance on everything.

I'd love to know what this background process is as well I did a little searching and came across
http://www.answersthatwork.com/Tasklist_pages/tasklist_w.htm

A little ways down I came across "Wdfmgr.exe"

which looks like it may be the media player  resource hog you mentioned, any comments?

I just cannot remember the name of the process/dll guys.  I would have to install the media player again to find it.

Dumb me for assuming (yeah I know) people knew about this hog.

I came across the following command that supposedly lets you roll back to media player 6.4 or somthing

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\wmp.inf,Uninstall

I'm giving serious thought to reformating this system at home so I went ahead and ran it, so far so good.  I dunno if it removed this mystery process/dll that Skuzzy mentions or not.  But if I notice an improvement in anything I'll let you guys  know.

My bad, I didnt realize they had drivers for both.  The only time Ive ever seen anyone mention them was in reference to ATI.  I learn something almost every day here lol.  I'd probably do better if I talked less and listened more.

Nah.   :D

I guess I'm a little behind the curve on this (big surprise), but I'm curious what kind of "performance hit" you guys have with this?  Does it affect everyone?  My machine at home doesnt have the fastest processor, but I have Media Player 10 installed on it and I havent noticed any performance hits.  Matter of fact, the system runs faster and smoother since I installed XP.  I certainly have no problems (at least none related to MP) with performance.  However, I do have two machines at work that run very slow and have faster processors than mine at home and more memory.  They also have MP 10.  Maybe there is something during the setup process that makes a difference?  I know on my system at home I always choose NOT to have MP be the default player for when it asks.............

I hade WMP 9 and didn't have a problem.  I went to 10 and I took a big hit on frame rates and just general things the computer can do.

Ok, I've uninstalled WMP.  Now, what do I look for in the registry specifically?
