I'd rather be asked for donations than stripped of my money involuntarily.
Was listening to talk radio the other day and heard a guy (don't remember his name, rarely listen to talk radio) make an interesting point about John Kerry. He said that John Kerry claims he won't legislate "faith" in regards to abortion and that (paraphrasing here) christianity has no business in government. However, he pointed out (the radio guy, not Kerry) that it is a christian principle to give to the poor and help the needy. Isn't this moving religion into government when we allow our government to act on this principle?
