My youngest son's fiancee is translating some of her grandfather's writings. Since he was an IL2 gunner in WWII I thought some of you might find this interesting:

Iron, thanks for sharing. I'm always interested in this kind of stuff. I'm sort of a student (at 52) of that period of history. The first half of the 20th century saw some of the most remarkable technological and social advances/changes, I believe. The people who lived through that period interest me greatly. I wish my dad would talk to his family more about the things he did and saw, especially while he was in airborne in Korea.
