My AH2 Debut
« on: October 28, 2004, 08:50:29 AM »
Well, last night I installed my new video card (nVidia 5200FX 128 AGP), updated the driver, and immediately logged into the main arena (game ID slimm), updated that file, and.......ta daaaaaaa, I'm in like Flint. I even got a kill before I had to leave to do other stuff. Not bad for a 4 y.o. PIII 866 MHz CPU w/ 512 Megs RAM.

Whoooot!  Although I forgot to check my FR, the action was pretty smooth. I even took off from a capped field, with lots of action on the ground and in the air. No problem, as far as the graphics and frame rate.

I may have a conflict with my microphone, though. When I tried to speak, my computer locked up. Didn't have time to thoroughly diagnose the problem, but maybe tonight. If anyone has experienced anything similar, I'd like to hear about it.

I noticed some changes in the game: Aside from the obvious look of the game:  1) was looking for the H2H Arena, didn't find it;  2) gotta learn to use the radio again;  3) I like the flt model. I upped in a F6F, and there were no surprises, but I'll do some flying offline to check all the other rides out;  4) I noticed when I logged in they didn't ask for any credit card info. Guess I get 2 weeks, then pay or no play online?

Anyway, I'm a happy camper:D

OK, but why not? Not enough people on, or just a shift in folks' emphasis on the gameplay?

Fewer FFA h2h arenas because (IMHO) the currently available arenas are huge and a bit of a pain in the butt to set up properly for FFA.  The smaller more fun h2h arenas can't currently be duplicated in AH2.
Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.

Slim, I have the same card.  If you download the Omega drivers for it, http://www.omegadrivers.net you will get about a 10 FR increase on the normal.

For me, I get around 50 in the tower, 30 flying over a smoking and burning field, and 120-150 at 10k.  Its an excellent card for AHII, but is lacking for other games.  If all you plan on doing is AHII, it will fit you very well. :)
