I had feet too big for my body my entire childhood. A real dork when it came to sports.  I had to work HARD to play an average game of any sport, be it baseball, football, basketball. By age 14 I was all but washed up as many other kids accelerated way past me.

But here is this 8 yr. old kid, who this past summer hits for the cycle in one game, with 2 grand slam HR's within, and then comes up 1 run short of the cycle in the next game.  Hits .885 for the season and wins MVP for his team.

Then soccer season starts (Foozball to you Euros :p) The first game they put this kid as the defender, then  goaly for the 2nd half of the game. No one scores on the team while he is in these positions in 3 games now.  The second game they play him as center, he scores 3 goals in the first 90 seconds, then goes on to score another 5 goals, final score, 9-1.  The other team was forced to double and sometimes triple team him, he just splits the defenders with a pass to center, then gets downfield and scores.

Last week the coach splits his time between Defender and Center, no one scores a goal when this kid is a defender, and he scores 5 as a center. Final score 10-2.

I envy 'natural' athletes.

Okay, done bragging.

I have a nephew who is a natural.

The kid is just phenominal at every sport he tries

I remember him at age 3 being able to toss up a ball and whack it with a bat. and I mean WHACK it! Killer part is nobody ever taught him how, He just saw it once and started doing it.

Later on I have the priveledge of coaching him in mitey mite pop warner football (7-8 year olds)
Again a natural right out of the box he hits like Ronnie Lott and runs like Bo Jackson. He ended up playing Quarterback (at his mothers insistance) thoughout his pop warner days. Became the starting varsity running back in HS in his freashman year.(running back was the position he always wanted to play anyway)
Baseball earned MVP honors like 3 years in a row in little league.
Wrestling, the same thing.

and all this with an abnormality in his spine he may eventually have to have surgery on

The kid is just amazing at any sport he goes out for.

And to top it off. He's just a great all around kid which is almost equally amazing considering the outright witch (generous term) his mother can be.

I coached my "athlete" in Little league this past year, as an assistant.  It was a pleasure doing this, as it was one of the rare times that he listened to what I said the FIRST time I said it. :)

They don't have a kids football team for his age group until he turns 9 y/o.  I already have two football coaches trying to recruit my son just on witnessing his baseball and soccer play in the last 3 years.

I've known a couple.

My brother-in-law was the only person ever to earn 9 varsity letters at our high school. It is a 3 year school (10-11-12) with over 4000 students, and he was a varsity starter in baseball, football and basketball all 3 years. He ended up playing division 1 college basketball.

My best friend Tom (now living in Aloha, Oregon BTW) was a natural but he hated organized sports. He made the basketball team... quit, made the golf team... quit, then in PE he long jumps over 20 feet. The coach about busts a nut trying to get him to join the track team.. nothing doing. He is also a great musician... if he wasn't short and ugly I'd have to hate his guts.

Rip, we live vicariously through our kids. At least, I do. My son's getting his Eagle Scout award soon. Heck, when I was in scouts I barely made second class.

I've always been good at sports (except basketball).  I stopped playing most of them when the Coach would say, "For a warm up we are going to jog 4 miles then sprint 1."

I said, "Nope, too much effort for me."

i tended to be good at all sports when i was younger, my dad was a professional football (soccer) player, good athlete and golf player. so i guess it was in the gene's and its him i should thank for it.

I played football to a good standard, was a school athletics record holder, now i am unfit and can hardly run (illness stopped me playing, and i am too lazy to get fitness back).

Still have the metabolism to look fit even though i've sat on my arse doing nothing but sit at computer and eat for 2 years though..... gotta love having that, people hate me for it ;) :D
I am not ashamed to confess that I am ignorant of what I do not know.
