ok first question:

im quoting from the help file here:
Quote
There are four terrain sizes supported by Aces High:  64, 128, 256, and 512 mile terrains.  Standard terrains in the Main Arena are 512 miles.  Four templates marked with 25 mile sector lines are provided in the ../HTC/aheditor/terrains/maps directory.  Determine which terrain size will accommodate your design, make a copy of that bitmap template, and give it the name you have chosen for your terrain.  Throughout this help file, we’ll use “myterr” as the terrain name.

after installing the terrain editor i have no such folder or files.
any ideas?

You'll find most of the tools you need at http://www.ah-terrains.com/ in the download section.

The 4 map templets you refer to are in the AH1 editor and the only way to make a clipboard map right now is with the old editor.

yo fly

dude it aint easy, but i read the first 20 pages of the hlep file, was able to make a flat terrain, no map, 3 bases 3 hq's and sucessfully take off from them offline.

just slowly read the whole help file, and try to do the things step by step sort of.

for me the hardest was understanding the red grid lines and how to read them properly. once that was done, getting the joystick working to move around the terrain helped IMMENSLY.

good luck and have fun learning. i know i am.

EDIT> making maps as in clip maps? you have to install the old AH one editor, then make a terrain with the same name of your AHII one, then close, copy and paste 2 of the files (i think elv and typ) into the AH one, then open the terrain back up and "make map"

there is a walk through on this board, or the ah-terrain forum i forget which.

The AH I TE help file is not a problem, because there are not very many decisive new features with the current AH II TE. It looks the same and the main tools are mostly the same. AH II TE has only couple of new features, but you learn them soon when starting your first map! :)

When I started with the Finrus about two years ago (it's my very first map I have ever made) I read the help file about 50 times and learned the terrain building from there. Then I asked about 50 question in the TE forums and the boys told me the rest. You can learn it too because I did it! :D
