I haven't really reasearched, this just popped into my mind.

I think it'd be awsome to have towed artillary introduced into AH as a GV.

I'm not talking something like in WB3 and THC's BoB(basically one of the WB3 ripoffs) where you order in arty and tell the dweebs firing where to land their next shot, I mean a player driven GV.

Arty would be great as an innacurate GV defender and a standoff base attacker.  It wouldn't be fair to have it work like a tankgun, nobody'd last longer than ten seconds in a GV.  Rather have it work only in the "land mode" and "sea mode" like a portable CV gun so that you can't really sight it directly in, but you could shell down a base from a distance or shell in and around a GV spawn.

Thoughts?

this is something i'de like to see itroduced, but the ability to give coordinates along with it. press something like cntrl q and pull up clipboard and you see X and Y coordinates on the map where your cursor is. Be able to shoot at an enemy without directly seeing it (have someone in a tank give you estimated coordinates of enemy location)

I seem to recall the M-16 was originally supposed to have a towed Howitzer

I was just thinking about this same thing the other day! In ww2 they had the m7 priest sp howitzer with a 105 mm main gun .50 mg for aa defence . In game use I was thinking you would drive in the woods hide  under a  treeline or in a clearing and have somebody  in the air or closer to target spoting  your  rounds for you. Also with a howitzer you could hide behind hills and  rain steel death  on the  target.   ....Artillery............. .the king of battle!

Glad to see I haven't been flamed yet :D

I never thought of the coordinates on the map idea, that rocks!

A Storch for arty spotters would be nice.  I actually think Pyro mentioned this a looooong time ago.

Found it  here:

"Fi 156- I think it'd be a lot of fun to fly with such a radically different flight envelope. It could be useful for artillery spotting when working out of a vehicle base."

I talked to HiTech about this at the Con a year ago or two.  He said Pyro had a towed arty piece he was looking at adding, probably towed by one of the half-tracks.  Nothing since then, though.  It would be cool to model the German 88, as it could be used for AAA, traditional artillery, and as a direct-fire anti-tank weapon.  Notice that a lot of V-bases have revetments, which would make an ideal place to set up the arty.

Actually, I"m more inclined towards self-propelled artillery.  I wouldn't mind fixed artillery being available at bases.  It will take some thought to put it in the game.  They'll most likely need different spawn points so you can't just spawn in range of a target.

As far as spotting aircraft in the MA, I think I would go with the Lysander instead of the Storch.

I kind of like the idea of stationary artillery at a spawn point type of area...maybe call it a firebase...yeah I know it wasn't something they did in WW2 but at least you could then direct say 1 to 3 batteries of guns to fire on targets.

Conversely the SP idea is pretty cool since all sides had some very effective SP Artillery in WW2.
