Natural metal P-38 test
« on: October 22, 2004, 12:10:21 AM »
EDIT: I think its pretty much completed now.   I just plain ignored the texture map errors and went ahead I did everything I could on this one.   Its a generic 20th FG, 55th FS P-38 correct as close as I could get.

The errors are obvious on close walkaround, but for the most part they are unnoticeable from the cockpit position or at typical game distances externally.

Thats the P47 nose art United.  No Boise on the Mustang art.  I'm guessing it's the same Don Allen art I posted in an earlier thread.

It's strange how the P-51D at AHII standards looks better than that P-51D from Il-2.

You think maybe you could do this skin in honor of Jack Ilfrey off of that one?

There is a better pic of the original with a decent view of the nose art posted in the general forums, Dan posted it in his announcement of Jack's recent passing.

I absolutely promise to do Happy Jack's Go Buggy when the 38's texture map is fixed.   Right now their are too many problems - mirrored textures (makes the noseart spelled backwards on the nose's right side), textures built into the 3D model (I have no control over the flat black antiglare panel on the nose, or the red devil on the tip of the nose - I can't modify or eliminate them).

Maybe it'll be fixed with 2.01...you never know....

Lets hope we get an early model 38 and someone can do his "Texas Terror" P38F as well.
