Boston fan - less lethal weapons

This sure sucks balls.

http://www.cnn.com/2004/US/10/22/fan.death/index.html

One of those situations where everybody's gotta feel absolutely terrible, not to mention what the girl's family must be feeling.

Does anyone know what kind of weapon the police were using?  If it's a pepperball gun, I'm not surprised by the indiscriminate fire, but I never thought it could kill someone.  They're basically paintball guns.

less leathal weapons are a joke in my opinion.

If someone needs shooting hard enough to stop they need to be shot.... period

if not then just teargas the entire crowd.

if you are in a riot and the police kill you or a citizen whose car you are turning over kills you..... tough.

less leathal weapons are all leathal.   It is foolish to get into the mindset that you are not using leathal force to use em.

it was similar to a paintball gun. i wish the pictures i took with my phone came out better because at one point i was at the van where they were distributing the guns.

they had co2 cans attached to them with round clips and looked almost like black tommy guns. the size of the barrel looked like a smaller caliber then a paintball gun, too.

i would estimate they were shooting at over 400fps from my experiences paintballing. you couldn't even see the rounds fly.

I hear they were afraid it would get into hospitals nearby

Yeah, kinda stupid to fire into a crowd like that, the innocent get hurt.

Well, you could shut off the booze, but that would cost business money. Another idea would be to take alot of these riot police and put them in plain clothes throughout the areas that have trouble. Arm them with cameras and a radio, they could take pictures of the troublemakers and call police to where the trouble is and arrest the jerks causing the trouble.

I cannot imagine losing my child that way, so senseless. I could care less about the world series, honestly

I think it's good that the police "accept total responsability"  This was an accident though....the real people responsible are:

Quote
some in the crowd vandalized property, set fires and tried to overturn cars

These idiots that can't control themselves caused this girls death.  To me the police have few options when dealing with riots that are good.

I can understand about the tear gass though.  That stuff gets sucked into one vent and it will be bothering people throughout the entire building.

They either go in w/ billy clubs and "break them up" or they disperse them with "less than leathal weapons"

I really feel for the parents here as well as the Cops that have to live with this.

I saw a pretty good invention on "tactical to practical" discover ch. show.

It was a flat panel mega speaker.  This thing projected a narrow concentrated "beam" of sound and basically disabled the person by overloading their sense of hearing.

i read somewhere there was a survelence camera nearby showing that poor girl was just standing there giving out high fives.

no threat, and no violent actions from her.

truly sad.
I don't know what to put here yet.
