USB Control problem
« on: October 28, 2004, 01:02:28 PM »
I'm having some troubles with my controllers. It's a X45 and CH Pro Pedals. Problem is that all rotaries and throttle on the X45 and the rudder part of the Pro pedals work out very jerky intervals.
Basically for all of them, the movement range when viewed in "test" only have 7-8 levels it can be set on. Moving the controller in between these have no effect, until suddenly it jumps to next level, thereby making any attempt of controlled fligh impossible.

Now, the funny part is that the toe breaks and the X45's XY-movement seems to work normal.

My system is newly bought.
After a fresh install of WinXP I've updated to SP2, installed chipset drivers, video drivers, DX9.0c in that order.
Now plugging in the controllers, they perform like stated above.

Under "Device Manager" there are 10 entries under "Universal Serial Bus Controllers": 5 "USB Root Hub"s, 4 "Via Rev 5 or later USB Universal Host Controller" and a "VIA USB Enhanced controller

Under "Human Interface Devices" I have 4 entries: 2 "HID-Compliant game controller", "USB Human Interface Device" and "Saitek X45 Flight Controller D-USB"

Now, I can't say for sure, but I seem to remember there only being 2 entries using the same controllers on my old PC, so maybe the drivers from the chipset and the USB drivers I heard is included in SP2 is trying to work simultanously?
I've tried uninstalling the VIA USB drivers, but nothing changes.

Under system info, the 5 VIA controllers are listed as using IRQ 21, with no other devices.

I really hope someone have any ideas. Everything else seems to be working flawless.

I suppose you have already tried plugging into different USB ports?  How about trying a powered USB hub?  I have 4 USB flight controllers plugged into one powered hub.  Did you use your original mobo driver CD or the latest VIA drivers?

Just curious, what software are you using for the joystick and/or rudders?  Did you install controller software, like CH's Control Manager?  I have no idea if the Saitek stick comes with a CD or not, I've never owned one.  I ask because Logitech's software can cause problems sometimes, again I have no idea what Saitek offers for controller software.  If so, did you try uninstalling it?  Did you make sure that you have the correct stick selected in the Game Devices window?  I did that when I first installed the drivers for my Flightstick Pro in XP.  I selected the regular Flightstick by mistake and didnt notice until I was calibrating.

Sounds like a problem with the joystick itself. Have you tried any other USB joysticks? I installed the CD drivers & the management software, and it works pretty flawlessly. The only problem mine has is that it won't always power up on boot. I have to unplug it, and plug it back in. Doesn't even need calibration, it just works. The management software also needed for AH2. It's for older games w/o good joystick support, so you can map all the buttons to keys for games that don't support the X45.

Yes I tried switching them around to other USB's, but no go.
Then I downloaded and installed AH2 just to see how it would work and it turns out AH detects them just fine. :)
Stupid Windows (and me)

But now my throttle doesn't respond, in neither Windows nor AH. It was most certainly responding earlier, so I'm a little baffled by this, as the two rotaries on it and the stick rudder (which I don't use) are fine. The throttle axis have simply dissapeared when attempting to test.
Maybe some problem with the wiring, or something, but at least I'll be able to work around that by remapping the throttle to something else if I can't get it to work.

StarofAfrica, I'm using Dhauzimmer's drivers for the stick and Hazardscript for programming it if that means anything to you. I never even tried the official drivers as some people reported problems with those. They have worked great up untill now.
For the Pedals I don't use any drivers, just plug them in and play.
