Peel was always a beacon of the real, shining out amidst the depths of the plastic Bruce Forsyth experience. He never went gentle into that dark night of crass commercialism, but raged, raged against the dying of the light. And always in such a nice and unassuming way. Music is a lot richer for his presence, and a lot poorer for his passing.
