He was the best DJ Radio 1 ever had. He wasn't afraid of playing NEW music that he personally believed in. Not for Peel the sheep trail Top 40 crap.

Felt the same way when Douglas Adams went. God is listening to some great music and laughing pretty hard right about now.

Gutted doesn't even begin to cover it.
The music business became a lot more mediocre today.
A bigger loss than Zappa.
Peel was always a beacon of the real, shining out amidst the depths of the plastic Bruce Forsyth experience. He never went gentle into that dark night of crass commercialism, but raged, raged against the dying of the light. And always in such a nice and unassuming way. Music is a lot richer for his presence, and a lot poorer for his passing.
Off to observe a minute's noise in honour of the man. Teenage Kicks, perhaps.

It's very sad. Especially him being so young. Although he did manage to find some of the worst music ever heard on British radio for some time.

But at least it was original sounding crap rather than cyclical, derivative trash.

I just read about his death on the BBC website.  I'm totally gobsmacked and obviously very upset; he was probably the best UK DJ... ever!

RIP!
