Seaplanes on the horizon?
« on: November 01, 2004, 09:43:05 AM »
I was reading Flossy's convention AAR this morning and this description of the Evil Con Mission flying PT boats struck a chord:

Quote
We all launched our PT boats, moving slowly in the water at first.... then on HiTech's word, we all accelerated and flew up out of the water - what a sight!

With the new realistic looking water in 2.01, I'm wondering if the groundwork for seaplanes is possibly being laid?

The Emily, Coronado, Catalina, Sunderlund, Rufe - can you imagine how cool that would be?

Just a question about the ECM - did anyone attempt a PT boat landing on water?

"landing" isn't quite the word I'd use. :)

It was more like you were skidding across the surface... water, land , mountain, jungle... it made no difference. It did not interact with the terrain at all, it merely detected it. It also had no "physics" modeling or FM, as you could stop in midair.

If you've ever used CM Eye before, it was exactly like that.

I wouldn't use the ECM as a preview of what's to come... although I'm right there with you wishing for seaplanes. :)

We all have a blind date with Destiny... and it looks like she's ordered the lobster.

Don't forget about the J2F Duck and Vought Kingfisher ;)

Though we're going to need something for them to do what they're good at.
