Look beside the kill markings.  It has the Czech symbol there.

Lol I should have known Dan!
You dont happen to have a clearer image of the noseart?

Czech roundels - I have seen profiles of Spits with Czech roundels but they have always been late 1945, 1946. I can only assume that this was post war so they wouldn't have seen action.
Maybe Dan can shed some light on it.

Yep the Czech markings were postwar when the Czechs obtained a number of Spits.  Out side of USAAF and RAAF markings on Spits, as well as the RAF SEAC markings, the only other national markings you'll find wartime are French Roundels unless you do Soviet Spits.

The nose art is a modification of the squadron badge art.

Go here:

http://www.raf.mod.uk/bob1940/266to312.html

Go to the 312 Squadron badge and you can see the stork and the light  blue circle.  Apparently the original 312 guys flew first with the French Escadrille des Cygelines Squadron and the stork is reminder of those days.

I can't find a specific photo of this particular bird.  Would the profile from the Osprey book do the trick?

This is the one that came to mind immediatly.  Dixie Alexander's Spit Vb Trop of the 52nd FG in the Med.

It has the large Vokes filter with the shark mouth on it.  It would be the Dark Earth, Desert Tan, Azure blue camo with a red nose and 52nd FG markings which would be VF, WD or QP with the individual letter. Not sure which ones were on this bird however.

Ugly isn't it

All the Aussie shark mouths were from the same 457  RAAF "Grey Nurse" Squadron.
