My prediction for 4 years from now
« on: October 31, 2004, 10:39:20 PM »
I have some predictions for four years from now no mater WHO wins the election

1 We wont have a health care system that works

2 We will STILL have a very large deficit in the billions

3 We wont have a balanced Budget

4 the economy will be better

5 We will still be in Iraq

6 We wont be getting our drugs from Canada. And if we do the price will rise so high due to supply and demand that we will have been better off with what we had before

7 We will still not have reduced our dependancy on foreign oil

8 We will have had another terrorist strike here in the US

It's weird how I quit flying a couple months before AH2 rolled out yet I'm still rather "adicted" to this board.  Who knows I may still be here arguing against Hilary

Almost as weird is lately Im finding myself spending more time on this board then flying.

I enjoy a good debate.
And I must say this board and debating here has had some side benefits.

I'd have to honestly say Im more educated about this election then any other since I've been old enough to vote. And I can honestly say that I have tried to avoid being swayed by the media left or right and the party rhetoric and have tried to get the bulk of my information from sources that are more independent or party neutral then just the major networks.

Couple things that astound me.
1 is how well party rhetoric works both from the left and right. Its amazing just how many people buy into it.

2 is among people I meet in RL how many people are barely educated at all. And in many cases not at all.

when I talk to people I hear people say they are voting for this person or that person and when asked why they say "Cause I dont like Bush", Or "Cause I dont like Kerry"
Two examples of this are people I know very well and are in my family.
One is voting Bush. But her reason for voting Bush is "Because Bush is a Christian and I dont like Kerry"

the other  one is voting Kerry. Her ONLY reason is "I just dont like Bush"

But when you ask these people why few can come up with any kind of specific reason, they cant come up with anything  that can stand up to any kind of serious scrutiny Typically they just spout off the party rhetoric they seem to like the sound of the best no matter how true or untrue it may be. And if you challenge them on it and debunk any of the rhetoric with mountains of facts and figures they best either can do is say "Well it doesn't matter, I just dont like ...."
Few actually have an informed opinion. And again I see it in both sides.

Killer is I find this is pretty typical

Same here DRED. My wife is about 180* opposite from me politically. She has all kinds of reasons, but they all don't stand up under scrutiny and facts. In the end she is loyal to her party for two or three unsubstantial reasons. I have no party, am registered as such, and tend to vote my personal beliefs instead of party lines.

I think it was Rip that posted the link to the 'who are you politically' site. I think I was 73 and 73 for Repub's and Libertarians.

In fact, none of them do.

We have our biggest arguments over politics. Kinda odd I guess, but it could be worse :D

Ripsnort will have 50,000+ cut and paste posts.

Martlet will be in therapy after the Kerry Administration.

Voss will still be whining conspiracy.

The deficit will have been cut in half by President Kerry.

Nilsen's Mia will have a sibling.

OBL will be dead.

Eagler will still be in the fetal position repeating "Landslide Bush" over and over.

John McCain will defeat John Kerry in one of the cleanest elections in history.

You forgot one.

Hillary Clinton will be trying to figure out how she can hide her membership in the communist party so she can become the first female(loosely used) president.

Four years from now ...

- The Red Sox will be "back to usual" and may win 10 games all year.

- Sun, Dell, Oracle, and IBM will have relocated to India. Microsoft will have bought Pakistan for the labor force.

- Fox News will have transformed itself into a 24-hour "reality news" network - no one will understand what that means, but ratings will soar as IQ levels around the nation tumble.

- There will be some very weird reports of dozens of Castro and Arrafat clones running around Buenos Aries - oddly enough they'll have Charlie Chaplin mustaches.

- The 2008 national conventions will become much more interesting. The RNC will feature manditory brandings as proof of loyalty to enter the event. The DNC will be MC'd by the "Queer Eye" guys. In a weird twist, the RNC will nominate the ticket of Bill O'Rielly and Dan Quayle, and the DNC will nominate the ticket of Michael Moore and Hillary Clinton.

- The American public being unable to choose between the lesser of two such useless evils, the 2008 election will be won by a massive write-in campagn for an independant ticket: Brett Favre and Angelina Jolie.

- Saudi Arabia will buy Texas. Gasoline will be $4.00/gallon. Halliburton will buy Nevada.

- Howard Stern will be off the air, and be appointed to the head of the FCC by President-elect Favre.
