I should clarify what I said...
Firstly, I turn inside spits and niks coz I do the pendulum thing and hardly ever a flat turn. If I did, it would only be for 3/4 of a turn. There's no doubt that making a flat turn against these two planes is bad news for the 38. I explained further in the message what I do.
If I ever get into a flat turn, all I'm saying is that I use 1-2 notches of flaps and I guess hope for the best!..ie hope the other guy is a newby!
..And I'd prefer to turn to the right if in a flat turn against most ACs in AH...I think you know why.
Against a good spit/nik pilot it'll be a tough fight - again no doubt about that. But then a good spit/nik pilot wouldn't be doing a flat turn.
The 38 does pretty well against all ACs IMO - it turns pretty well, climbs good, good controls at speed...one of the best all rounders.
RE: using engine to help turn the 38
You have to be real gentle coz too much and the 38 snaps into a spin. When that happens and you're not lucky, you will lose the fight.
