Ok, it is a stock kit, with some minor scratch built changes, and was done quickly, but, it is for a friend, and thought I would share some photos with ya'll before I sent it off to him.

** note the scratch built dropped flaps and the stiffeners in the gear well.

The cockpit is all stock, just painted with a needle and small brushes. The only changes I made were to the gear wells, the bomb shackle, the antennae, and the split flaps.

Hmmmm........luv that Corsair!!

I believe that is belong to 1st Lt Edwin L Olander of VMF-214 "Black Sheep" and he flew it in October 1943.

My friend expressed interest in this paint scheme, anyways, he is recovering from a major surgery, so I felt this would be a nice thing for him to have while he waits to get back to flying.
Anyways, I was unsure of the pilot, just the outfit was all I knew.

yep... but it was given to me out of the box, minus any directions! Made for some interesting decisions to say the least!

I hope your friend is feeling better I mean I'm glad he is recovering what you said and I also I hope he like this F4U-1 1/48 model what you did, hope he luv it. You did awesome job, man, awesome job!

I've never built a Corsair yet, but I love how you added the flaps and gear door stiffeners, etc, as you mentioned.

I like the general paint scheme, but as one modeler to another the pre/post shading (I think you used post shading) isn't my thing. You did it well, mind you, and I mean no slight or insult. Just saying I prefer "cleaner" birds when I model.

1 question, how did you make the weathering? (panel lines, gun smoke lines, fuel leaks)

The raised panel lines are sanded and removed, then scribed them back into the surface. After the camo was applied, applied a wash of grey / brown is applied, then a heavier wash of black. To finish on the panel lines, basically take the airbrush and mist it across the lines to further accentuate the panels.

As for the exhaust and gun blast, practice on styrene first, then sprayed matte black in the direction you desire the exhaust and gun blast to go.

The only thing I wish I was better at was applying fine oil streaks. So, instead, use the air brush, and for example on the oil coolers, apply tape to the forward edge of the bottom panel then apply light spray headed aft with the airflow direction.

Any scuff marks are a combination of aluminum paint with a fine brush, and graphite from a pencil. I am going to try the wax idea someday, just not ready as yet.

Edit: Forget it, must have been a glitch, as soon as I hit "Submit" they worked... just my luck. In any case great work Slap! I really like it. Like flying the plane too... may have to make a AHII skin of the F4U-1 =)

Lucky you!! I've got a single action with no flow regulator! I desperately need a regulator, a moisture trap, and/or a reservior, as I go straight from the 30fps compressor (hey, it's all I have!)

I have a touch up gun I bought from Matcho years ago, it will do the misting quite well, but not anything finer than a half inch.

I have a Badger and "another" gun for modeling, they were both in the $200 range, but are worth their weight in gold when it comes to doing this stuff.
