I shot at a plane last night and my tracers were about 20 feet off his right wing......he exploded and I got the kill. :rofl

Sometimes it is... but this was just my fault.  I think he was slowing down to fast and my shots were ahead of him.  Thats what really made me mad... I new it was my fault that he got me.  I made 2 stupid mistakes and should've known WAY better.  Its alright though.. been on a good run lately.

TC, i think it's more than the arena. We have to admit that modern culture itself emphasizes selfishness over teamwork. Those who believe the Duty Honor Country philosophy are even more of a minority than ever.

That's why squads -- and squad work  --  are important. Not only do you get peers to fly with, but if you choose well you'll get a group of people that believe in the same approach you do.

Simaril,
I was not saying the arena was at fault, or  anything of the like. I was saying the way people look at or treat each other in the arena on the same country is not what it used to be and the --> get this --->"QUAKE" or "NUKE EM 3D" mentality has crept it's way into the MA and other arenas in AH.......and is why we have what we have! a community that once was a type that did not score potato, gang 5 on 1, jump in to pick off someone's bandit after that someone has worked hard to gain the angles, always offered to clear a friendlys 6, or was there for the Team ( meaning country )
with the influx of what ever you might want to call them, degenerates that have no respect of another person or the other persons enjoyment in a flight simulation combat game, degenerates that sit and spawn camp for a sheer delight of thinking they look good when landing 50 kills in a GV or 20 kills in a hurri 1 or other crap........ all the blantant masked vulgarity or abbreviated curse words, or sex organs etc........certian groups that whine and cry about what is not fair yet have their certian friends mute others or ban others from talking for extended periods of time as they see fit, yet let their mates get off with out a word spoken.........crap like this needs to be looked at and remedied! If not then more people will leave and just more unraised glorified "GAMERS" of the worst kind will fill their place and make the AH community in game and on these boards even worse than it is now........

We all have seen it, In Game, On the AH BBs, yet either some don't care, or they flame instead of bringing a good discussion up about it, or they get fed up and leave.......it is time to straighten up and clean house, reprimand the ones that are out of line or get out of line.........thing is most can spurt off the names/handles/game ids of the worst offenders and have to stop for a breathe or 2 before they finish the list....

So tell me, where do you think this AH community should lead, to a more brighter, respectable, place to gather and associate interest in WW2 affairs and aircraft or turn it into another  "freaky teenager type" blastem up game with all the ill effects of blurting out obsceneties on the txt buffer in game ( channel does not matter , happens on every channel ) letting discussions of off topic items of sex, religion, drugs, etc....roll withut interuption

maybe I slipped off the edge here a WEE BIT, but I am not far here from the actual truth of the way things seem to be turning......

and really it is up to the players to decide what is and isn't appropriate in the game and on the boards ( really HTC is the one with the power ) but the players can police ( use this word lightly) to a degree and fix some of the things wrong......

As for explaining to me about squads and teamwork etc......I understand that and know all about it, I am going into my 11th year of flying flight sims online, I also understand that the lack of calling down people when they step beyond the boundry is somewhat low, you do see people calling others on their choice of words or discussions etc..but you see it seldomly.....

sorry for getting off topic in Savage's thread.........

Amazingly what has helped me, not just in AH, but in life is a book called "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance".

There are others, "Zen and Archery", etc.

But they all basically say the same thing.  It's a bit of letting go, but also keeping up with things.  That might seems an oxymoron but it's not.

Story:
An old and a young monk were walking from one temple to another to carry news.  Along the way they met a young lady by small river.  She was afraid to cross the river.  The older monk picked her up and carried her across the stream with the younger monk following.  Once across the old monk set her down and continued his journey.  The younger monk was visibly upset at the older monk.  After a few miles the older monk asked the younger monk why he was upset.  The younger monk proclaimed, "We are not supposed to hold women."  At which the older monk said, "I put the women down after the river.  Why are you still carrying her?"

I agree with much of what has been posted here.

The truth is I fly with one of the very best squads in AH, with a proud history that goes way back to AW FR, and helped found the AzForce, which was the precursor to the RJO, and also the same squad ran the original KOTH back in AW as well. The 327th Steel Talons.

On the other hand, I despise the thought of ONLY being able to depend on people from the squad or people who fly alongside the squad. We have squad night twice a week. But I also like a change of pace, and want to fly a night or two a week semi solo, meaning I will work with different people and different squads on non squad nights. Or at least I used to try to. It was a way to meet new and different people, and to learn new stuff.

I think it has a lot more to do with the ever changing "society" we have. It was creeping in as far back as AW, so it isn't something peculiar to AH.

I think that the regular gaming crowd has come to the world of the World War II combat flight sim, and it has brought on changes that the "old guard" is not and never will be happy with. I suppose the truth is that HTC needs the new people to survive and prosper.

But I think at least the MA has drifted away from the day when it was about fulfilling the dream of flying World War II combat just like the guys we all had books about and revered. To some, it is just another game where you get to compete with and kill real human opponents, that just happens to have World War II aircraft as the weapons.

So it isn't the same anymore. And that takes a lot of the shine off of it for some people, myself included. Gone are the days when the frustration and aggravation of a slump or a cold streak was offset by the rest of the experience.

In the end, I probably will be back, despite the feeling now that I just want to walk away and forget it. I gave up tobacco (for the most part, I still grab a cigar or two every once in a while, as opposed to a roll of Skoal a week and a pack or two of chewing tobacco to boot) a lot easier than this. But then each time the frustration gets worse, and I stay gone longer.

Were it not for my friends and squadmates, I think I'd just go and not look back, and get on with life in the real world. But they all draw me back in at least for a while.

<> guys, and have fun.

Agree 100%. Never meant my comment to be a pointed reply to you specifically, but more of a general statement to the effect that AH2 community will tend to reflect the modern world's  civilization, or lack thereof.

If we did slap down the offenders, the atmosphere of our subculture would most decidedly change.

tc, no disrespect intended at all.

none taken Simaril :)

always liked the quote Dmd Chief uses in his emails or postings:

Have the courage to step up and lead, and the public will follow.

You'll be back, maybe not in 90 days but you will return. I took almost a year off after about 6 years of hard core playing. It wasn;t done out of frustration, more to do with boredom in my case. But after 10 months when I did return I fell in love all over again, and that was 4 years ago. Like another old-hand in our squad always says..."I can quit anytime...REALLY."

:D

and look forward to seein ya when you get back.
