first line is his rank and name...Joseph Hampton (you knew that)
the second is his particular unit.. he is in a transportation unit
third is the major postal unit that his mail will be sorted and sent to where ever he is (APO= army post office.. AE= army europe)
all the mail will go to germany. that is the major mail hub for all of europe / middle east (except england).. so, all mail that you send will go the same exact course.. goes civilian trans from you to new york, then to germany via Air Force, then to the final destination via Air Force..
do not express mail anything, you will be wasting your money. if you choose to you will be paying for express delivery to new york only. once its there they repack all the mail and then the Air Force takes over. if there isnt enough mail on the plane, they will wait until there is. so mail can take anywhere from 14 days to 2 months.. i got a christmas card for easter last year when i was in Iraq.
