Pilot Looking for a Job
« on: November 07, 2004, 03:25:21 PM »
I just posted in another thread and it gave me an idea.

I mentioned that landing that first flying job is the tough one.  Right now I'm the backup pilot flying the traffic reports and one of two jump plane pilots at a local skydiving outfit.  I also ferry airplanes if need be.

I'd like to land some type of job flying either Part 91 (Corporate/personal transport) or Part 135 (On-demand, charter) and the airplanes that go with it.

550TT, 110 Multi, 120 Instrument, Commercial Single, Multi & Instrument ratings.

If anyone knows anyone who might have a use for a young (21 years old) professional pilot, I'd greatly appreciate a post or email and I can provide a resume and answer any additional questions.

Please foward to any who you feel may apply and I'd be grateful!

George/Golfer

Georgraphy is not an issue, I currently reside in Columbus, OH but would relocate for the right opportunity.

I actually sent in an application by accident.  I wound up on their career page, I wanted to see their minimums first hand (after being referred to by a friend) and after 5 Yes/No questions I had sent in an application...whoa?

I said oops and if I get a call, will probably do the interview for experience's sake and see how I do.

Canadian new pilot here. 200 hrs VFR and adding around 20 per month. Could add 100 hours a month if necessary to get hours up to a minimum necessary for job. Half the hours are on Cessna 172 and half on a 182.

Will work for food. Has a few gray hairs but hearing and sight are still good. Can swim a 50 sub 30 seconds and can juggle 3 oranges for at least a minute without dropping them.

Will fly anything anywhere except places where people are wearing towels on their heads.

Hobbies include flying stupid cartoon like planes over the internet and reading 1000 posts on the US election a month.

If you have a job opening or know where one is please post here.

Dont limit yourself in location to get work.  I worked in Saudi Arabia for a couple years, for a corporate flight department.  Great experience, and the networking you can do is fantastic, plus having international experience on a resume can give you a huge leg up on the competition for that next great job.

I would consider Kuwait or anywhere in the UAE without hesitation.  First of course you need more experience and all the tickets, but be willing to fly where and when necessary to expand your logbook and resume.

Very tough to get a first job especially with low time. Though it is possible, friend just landed a commercial job in Africa flying twins with about the same hours as you. Think you really need to look anywhere in the world for that first job as tough to get something local if not impossible.

Have you or are you looking at completing an instructors rating or aviation related degrees?

Either way best of luck!

Absolutely Gixer...finishing up CFI now (writtens, lesson plans ect all done) and have 1.5 semesters of school till a 4 year degree in aviation management.

I'm still 4-5 years ahead of anyone else with my time or my age, I am just looking for a break.

Hey Golfer,
Try scenic airlines they fly twin otters DHC-300-6 vista liners, they fly to the ditch, I mean grand canyon, plus its a part 121 job, airlines like 121 previous experience,  it a good start for low time flyers. Also try Vision Air or Air Vegas they fly the same routes as Scenic. Vision flys doniear 128 and Air Vegas flys beech 99s, its all turbo prop time thats important twin time.
I was a captain with scenic a long long time ago. They all fly out of vegas. I have had many students go the same route, there with the majors now.

Im a Captain with Hawaiian Airlines now flying B-767-300ER.

Also finnish that CFI and get a doulble I also you will need it later it gets better pay later on down the road, check airmen for an airline.

let me know if I can help, later.

Golfer,  I can second Straiga's mention of the Vegas ops.  You can start applying there at 600 TT, 50 MT.  I sent my app in there a while back and know a few pilots from my old school that are there now.

Another option would be looking at something like Eaglejet.
Depending on how things are going around here, I may do some time with them after the first of the year.

Few more places to look;

 Climbto350

 JetJobs

 Crewfax

JetJobs usually has high time postings. If you call Crewfax, ask for Brett (owner) and tell him "Coop" referred you. He might give you a little price break, but he's very low cost as is.

Best of luck.

edit - Forgot to add to Straiga's comment on getting your CFI(s). A lot of companies give brownie points for those. Get at least your CFII and AGI. MEI if possible.
Take your AGI as a practice test for your CFI initial. You don't need any endoresments for it, and all you have to do is walk the test into the FSDO to get your ticket.

Time to trot out an old joke -
  • Q. What do you say to a newly qualified CPL/IR?
  • Big Mac and fries, please!
:rofl

What's this, airlines hiring with 601TT?  I have you beat. The son of one of my old flying cronies at Enstone (very close to the former USAF Upper Heyford) got his first job with Monarch Airlines with less than 100TT. That was the deal at that time. The applicant had to have done his PPL and flown less than 100 hours. Apparently they felt that if someone had flown more than 100 hours, they would have developed "bad habits", and it would be difficult to train the person out of those habits.

beet1e: Doesn't surprise me. Like almost any other business, most of the best jobs out there are more of "who you know" than based on hours. You can get FO jobs with bare CPL/IR if you know the right people.

But...even though the person you mentioned may have gotten "hired" with those hours, they weren't flying on for hire  legs. Not legally in the U.S. anyway. And yeh, I realize you probably stuck that out there as troll bait.:p
