T34 76mm?
« on: November 06, 2004, 11:09:31 PM »
Does anyone else seem that the T34's gun as modeled in AH2 is ineffective? Using AP rounds I hit a Panzer from maybe 100ft away 8 times without doing any damage at all. I saw hit sprites which told me it penetrated the armor, but it wasnt hurting it. I hit its turret atleast 4 times, and an M8's 37mm AP round can knock out the panzer's turret with 1 hit. I got frustrated and started using HE rounds as well. Then The panzer realized what was going on and shot me, 2 hits and I was dead which seems pretty accurate.
So as far as armor goes I think the T34 is right on the ball, But I think there is something wrong with the 76mm gun.

The russian soldiers in ww2 will prolly agree that ther was something wrong with the gun... antleast against mark 4's, but 8 hits without damage sounds abit much.. There has been times tho when i have needed a couple or even 3 hits with a tiger to knock out a mark 4

Try the same attack after relogging and in a diff location on the map and see it it repeats.

Or better yet, do a controlled test with a buddy in the Panzer.

It's a known and reported bug. I fired three 76mm HE rounds at an AA gun before it blew. To kill the same gun type only required 30 or so rounds from the 7.62mm hull gun. I'd avoid driving the T-34 until the next patch comes out.

Note: Tanks are not my area and all data has been taken from the all knowing Internet, and we all know how reliable that is. Armor sloping is given if I found data for it, if it lacks data it does not mean that it is flat 90°.

the gun effectiveness needs a bit more tweakin'

I also think that the current T-34 we have is designed to fight panzer 2, 3, and early IVs (?) @ equal terms

I think some armours are way to tough. I watched a guy shoot a tiger in the rear from 5 feet 6 times and it didnt die. It was already mobility killed But he coudnt kill it.

that is silly.

I dont think it's undermodeled,

Last Night I rolled a T34, I was heading for Bish Spawn Point, OTW there, My Squaddie was harassing a Panzer IV in a IL2, I heard him firing so I did a U Turn around a small hill, and there he was at about 100 Yards, with his kiester lined up with my gun, WAM! 76mm Enema. He exploded.

Turned back around for Spawn Point, Saw some Tracer fire over a large hill, got to the top and I was overlooking the enemy spawn point, A lone Ostwind was parked firing at friendly aircraft.

I manuevered closer but the jig was up, he opened fire and I took heavy 37mm fire, I was taking hits and ricochets, I just dropped it into 4th and raced at him, Taking hits all the way, Then a Panzer IV spawned.

I stopped no more than 25 yards from the Ostwind, Still rolling I jumped to the turret, WAM! Ostwind explodes.

Adjust for Panzer IV about 100 Yards, WAM! Panzer Smokes and ends flight.

OTW back to field, See another Ostwind coming close to field, I chase him down, but while I was occupied, I must have taken a Tank round, and my engine goes dead. I end flight and get a Ditch! :D

I think the T34 is a beast. Fast as Hell, and the Gun is Great, Some may say it is slow to reload and it is, but it doesnt matter to me, Fire and Manuever, Fire and Manuever. Thats how you do it in the T34, No more spawn camping in this Tank.
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

Anyone here ever played Mech Warrior 2,3, and 4? While in T-34 Ye gatta move and fire at the same time (almost impossible to do in r/l WW2 tank)  by performing "circle of death" (circleing around the enemy tank and fire weapons at the same time). Although it would take a long time to kill the tiger, this method will put the tiger in a very vulnerable situation since its super heavy 88mm cannon moves very slow from left/right

I almost never tank, however I gave the T-34 a shot today and found the main gun completely ineffective against static targets.

I pumped approximately 40 rounds of HE followed by 20 rounds of AP in a VH with no effect from point blank range. I gave up after that since if it took another 20 AP rounds to knock it out it simply wasn't worth the wait. I filmed about the last 15 HE and 15 or so AP rounds just for kicks. I kept thinking I was shooting at a freindly base because of the total lack of any damage.

BTW, the reload time is worse than a shore battery. I probably won't be going back into a tank anytime soon.
