New patch drop me to 1FPS
« on: November 10, 2004, 09:12:49 PM »
Weird,

I was playing for a while then suddenly while in mid furball I dropped to 1 FPS. Even when clear of all terrain and A/C my frames never returned.

Granted I playing on 600MHZ machine but I usually get about 15FPS at sea level.

I had the EXACT same problem. It's NOT a good problem. I'm flying along nice and easy, and then WHAM I get 1 FPS (AND LESS in areas!) I'm unable to fly through a slide show like that, and I thought at first it was just a really poorly made map, with lots of trees, but even at 10k I was getting 2 fps.

Didn't something like this happen before and turned out to be a squad insignia at the wrong resolution?

I have to check but I know I have all three check boxes checked. I think one is mipmapping, texures and I can't remember the last one. I also have objects pre-loaded into memory checked.

Just like Krusty even at 10K all by my self it 1 frame at a time. Strange it took a while to get there. I played for an hour before it bogged down.

I attacked some B-24's and wham, it was like dogfighting with flashcards.

Oh yeah, I also had a pilot wounded. Don't know if that caused it if it was part of it but it sure didn't help.

Uncheck the "Preload textures into memory" bit and put up with the stutters. See if maybe its something to do with that. I run a 900MHz rig without the pre-load bit, have no stutters and haven't noticed any dump in FR. There are some points around the terrain where my FR drops some for no apparent reason, but not that low. I had a formation of B-24s up earlier and caught a weird FR drop while calibrating the bomb sight over water. Five seconds later it was gone. My FR dropped from 37 to 18 during this little sneeze.

F4U...offtopic, but Swoop has reformed the old VMF323 into No. 1 Squadron RAF.

Open to all of us former Rattlers, if interested.

On-topic...I haven't played in a few days so this must be a new patch or something, but make sure animated water is off.  That killed my framerates.

It is a new patch...so I have not had a chance to see if I suffer from what you suffer from yet.  So, ignore what I said re On-topic.   Off-topic still applies though  :)

This may be related to the new patch but I received the "fatal" blue screen lastnight, shortly after downloading the new patch.  It was a memory system error and pointed to new devices or software recently as the cause of the problem.  I find it hard to belive its my system being its about 3 months old,  a Pentium4, 3.4ghz, 128video card and 1gig of DDR ram.

Pretty sad to see things going to this direction. I have a machine that's way beyond the minimum reguirements for the game,  and still my frame rate is unplayable. Another bad thing is that AH2 engine can't support the big maps. You always get a 20%  frame rate reduction with them. Why even bother having big maps when you have around 100 people online. And the numbers aren't climbing this way.

My machine handles AHII, even with this latest patch just fine. 65-75 fps even on the big ozkansas (sp) map.

And I don't know what time you play at but I regularly see 400+ people on weekends and 300+ people on weeknights (all EST).

There are minority of people having problems, mostly due to the fact that they don't update there drivers or don't have good video cards to begin with.

Actually the overall playability has gotten much better. I'd guess you've got driver issues or dont have your overall system configured properly. You can take a current P4 or athlon 64 with a state of the art GPU and render it almost unuseable for gaming very easily. Obviously if you have a dinasour (no offense intended F4UDOA) then you might have greater issues...but to go from 15 FPS to one indicates somethings not right...could be drivers or memory leak or simply coincidence if your memory/cpu/mb/PS or something finally started to go...eventually something goes in an older system...might have just bit the bullet
