Sinking aircraft

How about the next time you crash an f6f in the ocean you have a certian amount of time before the aircraft submerges and you "die". Depending on the ordnance and fuel set it sinks faster or slower. Also depending on the size of the aircraft, such as B24s sink faster then a a6m would.

but a b24 would actually float longer than a zeke with its larger air pockets, and more surface area

hehehhee
I don't know what to put here yet.

When I jump out of a plane, I have a gun but no bullets. I would be nice to attack a goon, or plane tire or engine with the gun. Now I just can run around. Any chance is gettig a few clips to carry around? I am trying to survive, you know.

If you ditch, this already happens. If you crash hard, you die.

I can't see sinking aircraft being a priority for HTC but I'd like to see it anyway, it would add a nice touch of realism to the game. Perhaps when they do a PBY so we could also have pilots rescued from the water. We could also have lifeboats for ship's gunners. Once their ship was sunk they'd have to survive for a few minutes in a lifeboat to land their kills.

Incidentally, the main thing that affected an aircraft's sink rate was the wing position. Low wing aircraft like the B-17 would stay afloat longer than high wing planes like the B-24. Once the wing is resting on the water it creates buoyancy but while it is out of the water it is dead weight pushing the fuselage under.

If they're going to model water, they might as well go all the way. Modeling wave height and such for subs and seaplanes.
