Fun fight....
« on: December 29, 2004, 01:20:22 PM »
There are actually two clip here....

The 1st is a kind of rare pony meets hog over the big island....rare because the encounter is low and no one else shows up to alter things. This is basically a mexican stand off, from Flyboys perspective he felt I did a great job from an E management perspective...one thing it does show is you can take a ~100 mph hog vertical....well for a bit anyway:)....

Part two is intriguing since its now Flyboy vs Humble....not "pony vs hog". A couple things are changed since I have the E and am nowhere near as patient a person as Flyboy:)....since he has a disturbing history of killing me I think he got a bit over aggressive once I started to saddle up...since he has a history of killing me by sucking the E out of me then going vertical I kept more E than normal (usually I've got gear and flaps out)...end result is he gets some nice reversals (partly do to my E state) but I get the "over/under" I want and the hog holds togeather long enough....

I'd like to thank ghstrdr again for letting this one go on....

what can i say?
just superb flying by humble, he read every move i did.
in the first film i just couldnt make him stall out, i didnt belive my eyes that damn hog just keep the nose up.

in the second film i was very low on E and my only chance was to make humble overshoot. ( i didnt want to run awey)

i think i was abit nervous too since i allready had 16kills in the bag that sortie (2 rearms no vulchs)
but thats not an excuse

No question I had all the advantage on the 2nd clip....you still got the overshoot (I didnt realize just how much E I had on you)...I actually was so worried bout getting the E sucked out of me I kept to much....as we discussed on ch 200 I think you could of topped me out easily had you converted to a spiral climb at the top of any of those drags (on 1st clip)...the last one I think I'm at ~70 mph and doing the "floating leaf" anti stall thingie till the nose falls thru .... you can see me looking all over for ya praying your not over me....Just seeing it from my end I dont know how good your second shot window was...the hog kind of "stuttered" as I pulled to avoid so I just rode the shot out instead of risking a spin. Probably the one good thing I've gotten from flying the Ki-61 so much is better E management...you dont get it back in that bird:).

Fun fights guys !

Humble,  the E retention is interesting, if you notice you had some intial E adv (100 mph roughly), but by the first or second turn you guys were basically co-e

Were you dumping E deliberately to go for position ? or  was it mainly just a hog vs 51 difference in E retention ? Those 51's sure hang on to E nicely

Anyway - good fights

I'm assuming we're talking about the 2nd clip here....

It's a combination of both....If you look at the 2nd "merge" I'm pulling early and hard...his remerge (I know flyboy a bit) is telling me he's short on E and is flying an E fight...at 0:51 I'm pulling hard...we're only 5 mph apart but I've got some angles....from there you end up in a vertical "double circle" fight...he's flying the under and I'm the over....his shots are coming as he tops out coming back up into me...there are a couple times I'm at ~80 mph and he's 160 and then it flips...I feel like I'm locked in since the pony will out zoom me if I try and stay high...he's locked in to pulling up into me....so some of it is me trading E for angles/position...I've got some kind of "mental image" of the fight I want....some is flyboys amazing ability to retain E....he eats up the difference like no one else I run into. I'm actually in lag a bunch to keep as much E as I can....moment of truth is on the shot that gets my oil....even though I hads some E (~161) the plane got squirrely as I pulled so eased off and went vertical thru the shot...thats just luck/percentage...if hes in a tiffie I spin the thing out to avoid the shot:)....

Thanks for the film Humble. Great fights you 2! It's these types of films that help us new guys learn E management and what to do and not to do in a dogfight. I'm sitting here watchin it privately thinking what I would do, only to see you guys do something I never woulda thought of. guys:aok
