WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Vice President Dick Cheney, who has a history of heart attacks, went to a Washington hospital on Saturday after experiencing shortness of breath but later left for home and said he was fine.

Cheney, 63, has had a cold and aides said his cardiologist, Dr. Jonathan Reiner, advised him to visit George Washington University Hospital out of an abundance of caution.

Reiner later issued a statement ruling out "any cardiac cause" of Cheney's symptoms and also ruled out pneumonia and lung problems.

"The vice president likely has a viral, upper respiratory infection," Reiner said in a statement.

Cheney has had four heart attacks, the first in 1978 when he was 37 but none while he has been vice president. The most recent was a mild one shortly after the contested presidential race in November 2000.

The vice president had a stent -- a permanent wire mesh tube -- implanted to open an artery after his last heart attack. A defibrillator, to help regulate his heartbeat, was implanted in 2001.

Wow, I thought they would go at least a year before Cheney was too sick to be in office. Guess this is the ground work for Rudy Giuliani.

Or he could just be sick, and they are worried because he allready had 4 or 5 hear attacks.

Now I grant that there is an outside possibility to what you are suggestiong, but I also ask isint it your sides standard suggestion that Cheney is the real president and that he needs to be close to bush and the official powers to control him? So why now move in Guiliani and cut Cheney off from the official access?

Cmon, please at least keep the whacvky conspiracy theories consistent..

No. Karl Rove is the campaign strategist and gets the vote out. I belive one of his previous career was in highly targeted marketing and it shows in how well he segmented the voting population and got thje Bush message to his best prospective customers. He is not master political/foreign policy maker.  Plus remember by you guys it wasnt Karl Rove who had to hold Bush's hand at the 911 hearings, it was Cheney, so he is the evil policy mastermind.  Then of course there is the whole thing that this was a war for Halliburton oil companies etc etc...  Clearly its Cheney...

So why take him out of the loop and restrict his accces by faking him as too sick to work and thus transforming him into a private citizen again?
