Rookie Reporting for Duty
« on: November 12, 2004, 08:41:22 AM »
As a former vet of another not-to-be-named on-line WW2 flight sim, I just came to AH last night.  I must say I had a great time, even though I didn't know squat about a lot of the in-game commands.

Thanks to all who sent me 6 calls and my apologies to those I didn't send them to.  My SA really sucks atm because I'm spending so much time trying to figure out the commands.  I did find the 6 call command by checking the keyboard layout screen, but I couldn't figure out how to make it actually work.   Anyway, would like to post a few basic questions below so I can be a little more worthy tonight.  Forgive me if they are obviously simplistic.

1.  How, exactly, do I make the 6 call command work?  I tried mouse clicking on the person I wanted to send it to and a couple other things.  No luck I'm afraid.

2.  I noticed several people using voice commands, inlcuding a few 6 calls to me.  Is that a proximity thing, where in I only hear radio chat of friendlies close by?  Think I'm gonna have to set up the voice thing myself tonight.

3.  How do I send a direct message to another pilot?  Someone explained that last night but it scrolled by so fast I missed it.  WHich brings me to my next question...

4.  How do you "scroll up" so you can read stuff that has scrolled out of your message window?

5.  Does anyone have experience using a CH Pro Throttle USB with a separate "twisty" style stick?  I've always preferred the twisty rudder and I am wondering if the CH Pro Throttle can be made to work with a twisty stick that already has it's own throttle.  I'd like to override the stick throttle and use the CH Pro Throttle USB.

6.  Any suggestions or tips for setting up channels and such?

7.  If you lower or raise the video resolution settings will it increase or decrease the size of the plane icons?  I'm thinking I want to increase my resolution but not at the expense of making the icons smaller.

Well thats about it.  Thanks again for your input here!

All keyboard commands are listed in the settings/controls/keyboard section. You can customize your key commands (and stick commands, elsewhere) as desired.

I dont remember the auto6 command, cause mine is mapped to stick, but it works by causing the friendly closeset to your center view to get the check6 sent to him. If you continue to tap the key the highlight box will cycle through all visible friendlies, and the message is sent when you stop cycling.

Vox is in 2 groups -- the T sends to those on the same radio channel box "v" as you are, adn the f12 key sends to all within range, regardless of tuned channel.

radio channels are set by hitting the / key, and entering the channel number desired into each box. Default "1-all" is deactivated, and most use "200" as the all country all player equivalent. Channels 2 (country), 3(squadron?) and 4 are also preset. Most squads have an mutually agreed upon channel number under 200, and icons for those sharing a radio channel are yellow.

Direct messages can be sent by typing that players handle into a radio box, and then hitting the button next to the name. Afterward, you can quick call that channel with the appropriate /, shift-/, alt/, cntrl/ or whatever.

the default for expanded text buffer is `key, which toggles.

Icon size and color can be separtaely adjusted with the GUI box in settings, which I think is under settings/video.

Good Luck!!

Yes, it should work just fine. Do you know about the help files available from the website? It can cover most of your questions about setting and controls. If you still need help keep posting here, welcome aboard :aok

default key command for check 6 is the ' key (right beside the enter key). Hit it and it will highlight whomever is basically centered in your view.
To select someone else just keep tapping it till who you want is highlighted. It will send the call in a couple of seconds of being selected.
You can speed the call up by hitting the enter key once you have highlighted who you intend to receive the 6 call.

Cheers, and welcome to Aces High.

Bazin,

Welcome!

I have a one page quick reference for the keyboard commands. I need to finish the update for AH2, but it is still 99% accurate.

Welcome to AH.  If you need any help, there's the help file, and Hammer's site netaces.org is an excellent resource for learning all the basics of the game.  And of course, the BB is an excellent resource, as I'm sure you've already discovered.:)

Feel free to look me up in the MA or send me an email through the BB's email feature if you need any more help.
