Is There an Easy Way to Find a Fight?
« on: November 13, 2004, 03:11:26 PM »
Sorry for the dumb question but is there an easy way to find an active fight for a field or something else?  Seems I always spend my first 30 minutes or so on-line trying to find a place that has a good active fight going on.

I don't mind (in fact I like) flying some distance to a fight so I can gain some altitude first, but it's so bad for me that I find myself getting bored finding a fight.

Thank you in advance

If you're looking for a furball type fight or a fight over a field with a large number of planes, look at the map and find two large but relatively equal radar bars (know as dar bars) in the same or sometimes adjacent sectors.

If you look at the sectors (boxes divided by grid lines on the map), when there are planes above 500 feet in that sector, they will show up on radar as dots. If you have your icons set on default, green is friendly, red is enemy. They also show up in the upper left corner of the sector they are in in the form of a bar, like on a bar graph. The bigger the bar, the more planes.

If you are really new, I STRONGLY suggest you spend some time in the Training Arena where you can learn the important stuff a lot easier and quicker. I realize it might not be as much fun as soon as going to the main arena, but it will make going to the main arena more fun quicker when you are ready. You are MUCH more likely to find some one who will be willing to help you and answer your questions without being a jerk about it. People in the Training Arena will have more time, be more helpful, and be more patient.

Slyder, you can zoom the map in and out using the insert and delete keys on your keyboard.
Look for a sector that has a large red bar in it.  Bar dar will show you activity in the sector.
Dot dar: each aircraft is represented by a red (enemy) or green (friendly) dot on the map.

You can also drag the map around by left clicking anywhere on it and moving your mouse, when you have the map zoomed in.

To get the map up so you can see it, hit the escape key.

You really should pop into the Training Arena for a while as well, most here are very willing to help get you started. Also AH has a very dedicated Training Cadre. Look up Ghosth, Fuzeman, or TC.

If you see me in game and want help, just give me a shout. Handle in game is same as here.

Cheers,

You can always use first 30 min to feel in touch with your plane, to know the secrets and behave of the engine, or improving your SA scanning the sky, or have a look at the performance bar, or watching all around the landscape and compare it with the map, or challenge yourself in identifying planes from more than 6 mls without their tag or planning a way of escape in your fight........well, if all this is boring to you... try to harass some "hot blooded sticks",  on ch 200 and let them know your position:D .

Anyway if you need some help just ask, and don't  omit some passes in training arena

If you go to http://www.netaces.org, Hammer has a really great section on understanding the map and on situational awareness. This info is invaluable. As is all the info on this site.
