Well Thira got nuked by the volcano it was sitting on. However if you returned to it - then it would have appeared it had slipped under the sea.

Guys, don't let your positivism carry you away. Plato told lots of stories in his dialogs, and he wasn't trying to give an accurate record of the past. The search for Atlantis is even worse than the search for Noah's ark. In neither case is the actual existence of the thing relevant to the story; but at least in Noah's case people take it on faith. But if the Cyprus Tourism ORganization can give that guy $60k to claim atlantis is off the coast of Ayia Napa, maybe they can give me some money too....

(and don't believe the historical BS you see ont he Discovery Channel, or the Hitler Channel for that matter. They want viewers, not historical accuracy).

didnt atlantis turn into a giat flying city and fly way out into space, landing on a remote planet in the pegasus galaxie, only to be submerged and protected by an advance forcefield? And you can only reach it by using a thing called a "stargate"

I have a few books that go into it in detail, but have none of them on me.

However, a story from a person who came from one of the Atlantis is called The Island of Mu (or some such).
