No play since patch 3
« on: November 20, 2004, 10:51:53 PM »
Can get into all of the downloads, BB, and Help in AH but after the patch download. When I click on the  Main Arena or any others I'm back to my desk top. Ran Dx dia and shows no problems. Went into downloads and re loaded update and no help. Turned off Linksys firwalls and tried direct dsl without router,NO help. All other Internet OK. Ping plotter shows AH at 142 ping and no packet lose. What's going on guys??? See other posts same problem but no answers??? RajnMAW

Sounds like a SW firewall not having access to aceshigh.exe

I know a chap with the same problem; hard crash at the menu screen.  Same happens when offline play is selected, so don't think it's a firewall issue.  Has only started happening since last patch.

I decided to subscribe and was told I needed to download an update, which I did. Now I can't play at all. Online or offline. I have disabled anti virus, firewall ect. I have rebooted the computer. If I click offline I get "Aceshigh.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close and would I like to send a error report to Microsoft.

If I go online, as soon as I click on main arena I get "Aceshigh.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close....."

So now that I subscribed I can't play

Had nothing to do with Firewalls!!! Ran dsl direct with virus off and not through router. I Uninstalled the game that I had been using for 3 years before this last update and did a reinstall. Now all works. I saved my old settings in a sepearate file away from HTC folder before the Uninstall. Then after had it back put the settings folder I made into the new downloaded one so didn't have to reset all the controls. The glitchy has something to do with registration or .exe file??? Got tired of waitn for a fix so tried the dump and it worked.

Same here.

After downloading patch, uninstall and DL and install full .exe.

Works fine if you make sure to b/u settings, sticks ,sounds, skins.

Luck all

Had a very similar problem when AHII was released. Was the Video driver. If you are using MS's video drivers replace them witht he latest manufacturers drivers. Do this for all your devices. (sound, any MOBO specidif devices)

I am not sure what has happened lately, but I have run into many players who have dragged/moved Aces High (aceshigh.exe) to the desktop, instead of creating a shortcut on the desktop.
This will cause many problems, including all the above.

Sorry Skuzzy, wasn't what happened in my case. I had a shortcut on desktop that was using for 3 yrs same one. Ran direct to my dsl box. No router, shut down EZtrust virus protect. Think it had to do with something on the download. All worked great the day before the autoload. It had to be a glitch or packet lose??? on download. I dumped the whole game, 1st. time in 3 yrs, reloaded it and works great now even Running through my Firewalled lynxsys router, with my virus protect on. BUT when I play the game I turn the protections off hoping to gain some speed. My ping when I was on cable was 98, now I went to DSL they say it's faster but ping went to 140,hahaha. Going back to cable as soon as 1 yr contract up in Feb. Thanks for the tech help. RajnMAW

The other thing I have noticed occurs when people had thier anti-virus running and downloaded the patch for installation.

Apparently, there is a data pattern in the patch making it appear as a virus to anti-virus software which then corrupts the patch/installation.

Skuzzy, I had the same boot back to desktop problem too after the Patch 3 install, with no virus or software running. I uninstalled AH and reinstalled, presumably bypassing the patch, and now it works fine.
