Logitech Wingman Extreme

I've got one. I need help from anybody who has successfully taken one apart before. I can separate the halves of the handle grip (and unpinched one wire when I did -- it was pinched in the factory), but I cannot figure otu how to open up the base. The small hex wrench screws around the throttle and handle connection point don't seem to come loose (I have no idea what their function is!). WHen I unscrew the base it doesn't want to come apart.

I need hints or tips on how to open this thing up, as my stick is "sticking" pretty badly (no pun intended). Sometimes I have to hard over a still full left before it will register more than 10% left movement, and when it registers it goes to full. It's not my AH settings. I think the stick just needs inspection/cleaning. I need to open  it up and make sure all the axis are moving properly and smoothly. This won't get rid of spikes, but it will make it register movement again.

If anybody knows of any online resources that have exploded views of the Wingman Extreme 3D, I'd love to see if they help me get this sucker opened up.

that sounds like a bad pot...

hopefully you bought it at best buy and paid the $5 for the 2 year replacment warrantee.....

if so, bring it back get a fresh new one. do it every month or 2 just to pis them off LOL

then after the 2 years are up save that whole time and buy a CH setup

had to say, i learned on that stick, and loved the feel of it. i wish so badly they made custom sticks at CH or something with a feel of your own design, and the functionality of a whole stick.
I don't know what to put here yet.

JB73, I bought this years and years ago. And I wasn't going to pay for a replacement warranty because it was only about $40.00, and getting a warranty on something like that is a bit extreme lol

The Extreme 3D should have screws on the bottom of the base.  Depends on which gen. of stick it is, but the hex screw thingies under the handle are just for show on the older ones.

As for your problem, it happens to all of them.  The pots are junk.  I swear those sticks must have cost them like 5 bucks to make, including labor.  They obviously didnt have much in the way of quality control.  Still dont.

You can take it apart if you want and clean it and replace the left pot.  (Every one I've ever owned - 4 - has gone out on the left side, and had a spiky twist rudder).  It wont last.  They're disposable sticks man.  Toss it and buy one you dont have to fix every 6 months.

Gotta have cheap?  Want buttons?  Cant use analog?  Here.

At least you know what to expect and wont feel like you got raped when it falls apart in your hands.

If you are determined to find parts for that thing, try here.  I get parts from them alot of times for older systems.

DOH!!  Thanks Roscoroo, forgot about prying that ring off.  Been awhile.

Ive got a pile of wingmans ... (just toss it in it)

Actually sometimes they do clean up but they never seam to last long though afterwards 2-3 months max .

1st take the screws out of the handle .. then split it apart
(you have to also pry down the tab thats located just on the underneath of the handle ) be careful that you dont break the rudder pot tab (split while its in the center position)
i leave the circuit board in the left side of the handle and unplug the wires carefully

2nd pry up the silver ring that holds the throttle (it just unsnaps)
the allen or torx looking screws are fakes

3rd flip the stick over and remove the 5 phillips screws
now the base should split

viola its apart  ... now since you have it this far if the centering post is weak or broken now would be a good time to pull the 4 screws that hold the main stick in and either epoxy the post
or what i did to all mine was weld a thin washer to a stud and install it under the metal plate . (finish breaking off the centering pos post and toss it)

now what worked best on mine for a quick fix was to blow the pots out with air . but as i said it only lasts a few months. and sometimes doesnt work at all  . that darn roll axis was always messing up

most likely your gonna end up buying a new stick .
