Range of bombers...
« on: January 08, 2001, 05:05:00 PM »
Does anyone have some basic numbers of ranges I could expect to get out of the level bombers?  Case in point-  assuming max loadout on the B17, what's the effective range for IB to target and RTB?

*S* and regards,

Jay.

50% fuel on any of the bombers should fly you clear across the map. For most strikes I load 25% fuel & have no problem with multiple passes over the target and RTB. As a general rule of thumb I'd say if the target is more than 2 sectors away from takeoff point load 50%, otherwise 25 should get you home ok.

I did some tests of the fuel usage at full throttle and gathered it in two schemes; one for a fuel-multiplier of 1 and the other for Main Arena's multiplier of 2.
You should be able to estimate roughly how much fuel is needed for your mission.

Ghosth's suggestions is a good thumb rule, but I add 25% extra when I am using the Ju88 and TBM.

Not in real time  , thats why they are only aproximate.
Tested them with a 60x multiplier. Each second then is 1 minute flight (30 seconds in MA)

I remember a good run a few tours ago. Raub, me, and MaxQ were doing an Arc Light against the Bish city and Refinery. Me and MaxQ lifted off from A8 with B-17s and 75% fuel, Raub took a Lanc and 50% from A11. He made his run, and started complaining about his fuel status. He was near V59 (sfterr) and ran outa gas; he ditched it within sight of a Bish B-26 blasting V59. Meanwhile me and MaxQ made for A28. I figured that based on our fuel as it stood, we could make it to A1. We made it to A1 with a little fuel remaining in the Aux tank.

After that MaxQ said "So if I run outa gas next time, I'll pull a Raub!" Had me ROFL for a long time!
