One night in the DA, NathBDP and I decided to test out the tailgunning prowess of the Val.  I put the Val into a 60 degree vertical climb, set it on auto-angle, and fired straight down at Nath as he climbed to me.

Much to my surprise, once the Val reached almost 0mph in the vertical, it gently nosed down and then looped back up and repeated the vertical climb all over again -- all while still on auto-angle without my touching any of the controls.  I had put it into a perpetual loop where it never lost overall altitude and always had a four or five second window of opportunity for firing out of the tailgun at planes below it.

Try it sometime.

Levi,
I have found almost all the planes I have used auto angle on have followed this same pattern, also to note  most of them actually continue to gain alt rather than lose it.......

pardon me if you already knew this and was just refering to the Val in this particular instance.....
"When one considers just what they should say to a new pilot who is logging in Aces High, the mind becomes confused in the complex maze of info it is necessary for the new player to know. All of it is important; most of it vital; and all of it just too much for one brain to absorb in 1-2 lessons" TC

Is it just me or do the 7.92 mm tailguns on the B5N and D3A hit like .50 cals?

Seems to me they make the ".50 cal" hit sound when they hit you... and they seem to do .50 cal damage rather than .30 cal.

I've thought that since AH1, even though in the hangar they are listed as having .30 cal class tail guns.
