OnLine Learning Sites for MS Certs?
« on: November 22, 2004, 04:47:18 PM »
I'd asked over to my forums  and didnt get much for replies.  My employer is willing to foot the bill for online learning for MS IIS and SQL.  We checked a few online learning sites out and were wondering what others in the IT world had tried, liked and could suggest.

Thanks!

I'm Cert. MCSE(Ms. cert. sys. engineer)...

I could go look at the MCSE web site and see if you can just take IIS & SQL

I know SQL(DBA) is apart from IIS(Internet), so they should be seperate courses...

I had IIS in my Exams...SQL was not an optional exam.(diff, program)

forgot something...

why don't you just order the books and study on your own, then when ready go do the exams...

once you finish the books gimme a yell, I'll pass you some interesting things BEFORE your exams

Thanks for the info

My job is from 5pm to 1am, most of the tasks I do are well underwy by 8pm, so that gives me a lot of available time for online learning and watch over the mainframe, servers, etc.  Thus why we are checking online versus going to an actual training facility.

Try http://www.globalknowledge.com

No idea how good their online classes are, but I've taken quite a few of their advanced Cisco classes and found them pretty decent.

A guy I work with said he learned SQL from a site called
http://www.w3schools.com

It's a free site and you will need to be able to learn without a lot of help, but he said it worked for him.

Ask him if he's willing to fit the bill for Cisco Certification, CCNA or CCNP if possible. MCSE's are a dime a dozen these day's. Very few Cisco certs.

That's what I'd heard too, Gixer.

Few years ago, the big thing was A+ Certification...now its the Microsoft Certs (seems to be a copy of the Novell Certs years ago).

Nice pieces of paper, the real tire-to-pavement test is proving you know the subject versus how to beat a test.

Maybe 3 years ago, not now. Cisco certs are a dime a dozen too. They're also not viewed as greatly as they used to be.  CCNA/DA is good for a grounding in networking though.

I'm about to do a cert myself this xmas... the Juniper certifcations. Thats where the $$$ will be ;)
